“Good hotel with excellent, friendly service”

The location of the hotel is good with regular bus services to the old town (only a few minutes on the bus, bus stop 30 second walk from hotel). The room was no-frills but very clean, spacious and comfortable.
The best thing about the hotel was the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff and owners which was top class. We would definitely stay here again.

“A Nice Place to Stay in Dubrovnik Without Breaking the Bank”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 September 2010

The room was fairly basic, comfortable bed, desk, shower, no tub. I did not visit Dubrovnik for the beach scene and water sports, so can't evaluate quality of the beach (keep in mind that anywhere in Dubrovnik that you can get in the water qualifies as a "beach") but there is a "beach" about 10 or 15 minute downhill walk, the uphill return is longer.

The walk to old town from Hotel R is about 15 minutes, again downhill. Definitely do the city wall walk but go early or late because the mid-day sun is unforgiving and carry water. You can catch the number 4 bus back to the Hotel.

The Hotel staff was very friendly and informative as to where to go to eat and what to do. I had a problem with my booking and the Hotel owner worked out all the problems.

Some of the guide books I read on Dubrovnik suggested that the areas outside of the old city walls could be dangerous at night. These books need an update. My partner and I made the walk between Hotel R and old town several times at night. Dangerous? No! More like a walk in Disneyland, Orlando style.

If you want to visit Dubrovnik and not spend a lot of money but get a clean and comfortable room, you can't go wrong at Hotel R. The friendliness and helpful staff is a plus.

I also recommend the Sesame for dinner but make reservations. It is a bit pricey but a good value.

“Nice, affordable hotel with great service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 August 2010

Not too fancy, just what you need for your stay. Great service, the keeper drove us to the arport to pick up our rental car, called his son to ask for recommendations on ferries to Hvar, where we were going next, and waited with our luggage until we got the car.

“Great location, very nice and helpful owners”

Hotel R is about 15 min walking distance to the Dubrovnik old town, with an bus stop right outside for easy returning back from the old town (it's an uphill walk on coming back). The rooms are basic, but are very clean with enough spaces. What makes this little hotel stands out above all others is their great personal service. We checked in the hotel in the late afternoon (about 6:00pm) after having a flat tire on our rental car, and was going to look for an auto shop the next morning to have the leak fixed. We asked the hotel owner Mario for closest auto shops, and he immediately offered to take us to one before it closed for the day. We followed his car to the shop, he talked with the mechanics regarding our tire problem, and then knowing there was no way for us to drive back by ourselves, he waited there until the tire was fixed so he could lead us back. This had saved us a great deal of time the next day had we had to look for an auto shop in the morning.

When we expressed our gratitude for his help, Mario just simply said "when you stay with us, you are friends of ours". His fast help allowed us to drive to Montenegro as planned the next morning, instead of being stuck in Dubrovnik looking for auto shops.

Mario's wife tried for more than 30 min in the morning calling every office of our rental company in Croatia in trying to reach some one, she wanted to see if she can get the rental company to switch to a different car for us since she knew we still have a long way to go in the follow week. Their willingness to help their guests anyway they could was the biggest plus about staying in the hotel. I would definitely stay with them again if we ever go back to Dubrovnik in the future.

“Nice, clean and friendly hotel well worth the price”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 July 2009

We stayed here for two nights. The hotel room was clean and medium sized. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpfull (as were most people we met i Croatia). The closest beach (5-10 minutes walk) was rocky and not very friendly for children, but worked alright for us. We had a nice, large balcony with an ocean view but unfortunately the road outside caused quite some noise. Buses were available to old town, but you could also walk in 15-20 minutes, on a small sidewalk next to the noisy road, which was okay but not really enjoyable. The hotel had a transfer service to Dubrovnik airport which worked well for a reasonable price (180 HRK ~ 25 EUR).

The breakfast includeded, in addition to the normal assortimment of, bread, youghurt, crerials, cheese, ham etc also cooked breakfast dished such as pancaces, omelettes etc. The only minus was that there were too few tables at the breakfast and our first morning when we arrived rather late we had to wait for a table. Also, the breakfast time was rather short, from 7 until 9.30.

All in all it was a nice, clean and friendly hotel well worth the price.
