This hidden gem of a place is located literally just a 5-minute walk to Diocletian's Palace. House Sandra, named after the mother of the owner, is a 350-year old home converted to an apartment building of 7 units. My room on the second floor had one queen-size bed, a refrigerator, a coffee pot, a flat-panet TV, and a private toilet with shower. The original rock-wall behind the headboard of the bed is a nice character feature. The unit also had a wall-mounted electric heater that was more than adequate to quickly warm up the place from the cold temperatures outside. The hosts, including the father, son, and daugther, were all very helpful to me. In fact, since parking is a premium in the Old Town of Split, the hosts were able to secure me a small parking spot for my rented vehicle just out front of Sandra House. Keep in mind that this is not a hotel or even a B&B since there is no phone, no daily maid service (I stayed there 4 nights), and no breakfast. The room is also small. However, the price is excellent and I would not hestitate to stay here again. Be sure not to forget to switch on the 10-gallon water heater ,located above the toilet (watch your head if you're tall), about 20 minutes before you want to take a shower. Sandra's House is located just off of a main street that leads to Diocletian's Palace, just next door to the more expensive, Villa Ana. Be sure to get specific directions to the place as it may be hard to find at first. It is about a 10 to 15-minute walk to the bus, ferry, and train station. A suggestion I made to the owner while I was there is to put a chair in this room so someone can sit without sitting on the bed.
Room Tip: I liked the room on the second floor with one queen-size bed.
