“Excellent location, price & host”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

We stayed in apartment Marco for 2 nights and paid 80 Euros, which included a pick up from the bus station; which literally a 7 minute walk. The host was gracious enough to pick us up and spoke English too which helped us get guidance about the places to see and eat. The apartment is in a quiet neighborhood, very very clean (upon request, the beds can be separated or joined) and right next to a cafe for some morning coffee!

Remember that from the bus station, this is a bit of a uphill walk, so if you're carrying heavy luggage, then reaching to this place (although just 5-7 min walk) can be a bit strenuous.

“Great Location! Great Price! Great Host!”

This hidden gem of a place is located literally just a 5-minute walk to Diocletian's Palace. House Sandra, named after the mother of the owner, is a 350-year old home converted to an apartment building of 7 units. My room on the second floor had one queen-size bed, a refrigerator, a coffee pot, a flat-panet TV, and a private toilet with shower. The original rock-wall behind the headboard of the bed is a nice character feature. The unit also had a wall-mounted electric heater that was more than adequate to quickly warm up the place from the cold temperatures outside. The hosts, including the father, son, and daugther, were all very helpful to me. In fact, since parking is a premium in the Old Town of Split, the hosts were able to secure me a small parking spot for my rented vehicle just out front of Sandra House. Keep in mind that this is not a hotel or even a B&B since there is no phone, no daily maid service (I stayed there 4 nights), and no breakfast. The room is also small. However, the price is excellent and I would not hestitate to stay here again. Be sure not to forget to switch on the 10-gallon water heater ,located above the toilet (watch your head if you're tall), about 20 minutes before you want to take a shower. Sandra's House is located just off of a main street that leads to Diocletian's Palace, just next door to the more expensive, Villa Ana. Be sure to get specific directions to the place as it may be hard to find at first. It is about a 10 to 15-minute walk to the bus, ferry, and train station. A suggestion I made to the owner while I was there is to put a chair in this room so someone can sit without sitting on the bed.

Room Tip: I liked the room on the second floor with one queen-size bed.

“Good place to stay in Split at a very good price”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 October 2011

I really don't have a lot to add to the other reviews, except I agree that this was a great place to stay. We were met at the bus station by the owner, who helped us with our luggage and showed us to our room. The room was on the second floor, with an outside balcony with a clothesline, which was convenient, as we had a couple things we needed to rinse out. Also a table and chairs outside, which would have been very nice if the weather had been warmer. It was quiet, clean, with a refrigerator and some other kitchen utensils. Good wi-fi. Close to attractions in Split as other reviewers have indicated. We also tried the breakfast at the hotel next door, and agree that it wasn't great.

“A decent economy option in Split”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 October 2011

House Sandra

This is an economy place to stay in Split. It's a pair of houses in a quiet side street, offering rooms and an apartment, with few frills and no breakfast. Our room and shower were small, but clean, comfortable and fully adequate for a couple of nights. The aircon was fine, as was the wifi internet service.

I wouldn't recommend breakfast at the place next door to House Sandra; choice and quality were poor when we tried it, and there are better options in the old town.

In terms of location, House Sandra is 10 minutes' walk from the bus station, and a similar distance from the old town, centred on Diocletian's Palace. If you call the house from the bus, someone will meet you and help you walk your luggage to your room. From their point of view this keeps you out of the clutches of the touts offering rooms to arriving passengers. From your point of view it ensures that you get to an honest decent place to stay.

“Clean, quiet apartment in a great location with warm welcome”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 October 2011

We stayed here for two nights, we had a small apartment with twin beds. It was clean, quiet and very close to the city centre for a good price. The host picked us up from the coach station although it was a short walk to the apartment. We felt comfortable and refreshed after our stay. My only niggle would be the overinflated pillows, heh! Highly recommended.
