This hotel is about a 25 min walk out of the old town in Split and is in a very random industrial area. The walk wasn't too bad - you can get a bus instead too.
The receptionist was friendly and helpful at the hotel, and the interior (the reception and the bar/dining room) looked an awful lot better than the shabby exterior. However, our room wasn't that great. The room smelled smoky and also of air freshener and the bathroom bin hadn't been emptied so the whole room didn't feel that clean. Breakfast was a bit sparse too.
However, there really isn't much choice in Split. If you stayed closer to Split you could be paying double the price for a hotel worse than Hotel As.
I would suggest looking at apartments in Split instead; we stayed at Apartment Lorena for two nights earlier in our Croatia trip and this was just a 3 min walk to the old town. The apartment wasn't that great, but the location was brilliant.
Normally I'd give this hotel a 2/5 but given there aren't many other options in Split unless you've got lots more money to spend, I'll give it 3/5.

Few days ago I went to Split to visit my boyfriend and we spend few nights at Hotel As.
It is far away from centre, it is hard to find but staff, food, rooms and overall it is an excelent hotel to spend some time.
The bartender Marko is allways smiling and remembers your name, the hauskeeping is excelent so I would recomend this hotel to everyone.

This recently renovated hotel was delightful. It's not a large place, but it's well decorated and the service was great. The lobby floor has a cozy, attractive bar and a small restaurant. Breakfast was quite good. The rooms, which all have just one double bed, were very attractive and the bathrooms were great. The location is not in the center of the city.....in fact, you're in an industrial area....but it was a 15 or 20 minute walk into the center of Split, or a 5 minute cab ride.
