“simple accomodation, great location, helpfull staff”

best thing about this object is location, located in middle of 1700 year old Roman emperor Diklecian's palace, walking distance to everything you need ( shops, restaurants, bars, railway, harbour, bus station), staff was lovely too, helped us as much as they could. Rooms don't have private bathrooms but it was no problem cause at least baths are clean and male-female seperated on each floor. We had great fun there.

“Bed bug nightmare!!!!!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 June 2010

We spent two weeks in Croatia and stayed here on the 12/6/10. Although the location is fantastic, we were horrified to discover that the main bed in our room was absolutely CRAWLING and HEAVING with bed bugs. No doubt bed bugs are a common problem and are said to be in every hotel at some stage, but the situation at Hotel Jupiter was ridiculous.
We stayed in room 7, which has a king sized bed and a single bed and after half an hour we woke up to find that the large bed was completely infested. There were tiny (baby) bed bugs and also bugs that had grown to half a centimetre in length. How on earth could the person who changes the sheets NOT notice this? The pillows were crawling too. We had a horrible night and had to move to another room where there didn't appear to be any.
This all posed a real problem as when we came back to London the next day we had to put all our clothes, luggage, handbags etc straight into black plastic bags to be taken to the dry cleaners - straight after having walked through the front door at 2am. They are a nightmare to get rid of once they are in your clothing and from what we cold see online the eggs can even live in your hair.
To add to this irritation the hotel would not refund us any of the cost of the room. We were paying 400 kuna for the night (200 each) - and for Croatia, this is not especially cheap - we stayed in some beautiful places for less. The staff seemed to be vaguely regretful of their little problem - but we certainly were not given the impression that it was a new problem - or a problem that they had any intention of addressing. They just kept saying 'ah - well - gosh - well what can we say - it is awful - such a problem'.
All in all, the location is great and the people are pleasant but the hotel (which is generally clean) has a serious bed bug problem and for this reason we would not recommend it. More than anything - the staff don't seem to take it very seriously. Not impressed.

“sleepin in center of almost 2000 years old palace”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 October 2009

We had a nice time, located in centre of Split, easily accessible to everything, were able to go in every night club by foot. Hotel(althogh i think it is not a hotel) was very simple, had nice rooms( if you dont mind shared bathrooms),clean, the staff was very pleasant and helpful, pointed us to must see places, and most important to best clubs in Split. The drawback of such a location was noise from club near the hotel up unitl 1 p.m. on friday, also there was no breakfast(didint mind that though, lots of great restaurants in palace). In total this is nice place to stay for a few nights if you want to feel the atmosphere of town , mainly for backpackers, fair price(compared to other simillar places in Split), i would recommend it and definitively would recommend visit to Split.

“seems a scam”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 September 2007

We have reserved a room in the hotel a month ago before our intended stay in Split in mid Sept through the hotel's website, and has re-confirmed our booking several days before the date of our intended stay as requested by the hotel. The hotel has replied that the room will be kept for us until 8pm. However, when we arrived the hotel in the afternoon, the receptionlist simply told us that all rooms were full, though we have made reservation. No explanation, and the only help that could be offered was that he called a travel agent to refer private accommodation to us. When we intended to leave the hotel as the travel agent didn't come after half an hour, the receptionalist said the travel agent would blame him for letting us go.
Our guess was that the hotel would confirm reservation of rooms no matter rooms were available or not. It would take all walk-in guests to secure room charge, and referring those who could not get a room from them to private accommodation so as to secure "commission" from the travel agent! That is the reason why he wouldn't let us go after calling the agent. After reading the reviews below, we feel lucky that we couldn't get a room!

“over priced back packer accommodation”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 August 2007

Booked I thought a room for a family of 4 with 2 young children. Arrived and met by receptionists keener to sit in sun than help. Hotel had reserved 2 single rooms - we changed this to 1 large room, but when we returned as it was too early to take the room - this had been taken by someone else - so back to 2 rooms!

You pay per person - so can be more expensive than other better places which have en suite facilities. This is not a hotel.

Annoyingly our room overlooked a lovely square in which the receptionists sat out all night chatting and disturbing us. Very very disappointed - we stayed previous night at Kastel for less money - with TV, private bathroom, and delightful room and service - would NOT recommend this place
