We stayed one night-Sept 10, 2011. Great location-right in the middle of everything. Very easy to get to-directions are foolproof. Staff pleasant and helpful with directions and dining reservations. Could not believe how quiet room was when windows were closed-there is a busy restaurant and nightclub in piazza below. Great view of promenade and water. Very clean and good sized for an old city hotel. Breakfast leaves a lot to be desired-thank goodness there are plenty of places to grab a good espresso. Is it a five star luxury hotel? No, but if you want a clean spacious room close to everything, especially when you are only there to sleep, this is the place. Would definitely recommend and stay there again myself.

Vacationing in Croatia this year, we rolled into Split without any bookings. Coming from Dubai and being used to high standards, I was already let down a few times with hotels on the Dalmation Coast. We stumbled onto this Hotel and from the first smile of the lady who sold us the room to the last goodbye, i must say that i had a brilliant experience. Not only due to the smiles but also to the quality of the rooms. Check in and check out was painless and the beds very comfortable. Thank you so much.

Room was excellent with lovely view over square. Bright and modern. Bathroom a little smallish but very clean and modern. Only drawback was no elevator and getting luggage up narrow stairs to room. Premises inside a 1700 year old castle so I guess this is understandable.

After a week spent traveling in Russia and Prague we became rather frantic when we couldn't locate a room in Split. Thankfully the "luxury suite" at Villa Kastel was available. Just steps off the Riva, the room was spotless, quiet and had a super comfortable double bed (a rarity in Europe thus far). Check-in and out was smooth and they gladly stored our bags while we went to the beach after check-out. Breakfast was fairly pathetic but you can opt to stay sans breakfast and get pastries and coffee on the Riva. We liked it so well we are returning there at the end of our trip.
