After reading the other reviews I was a bit disappointed in Rooms Denis.

We had booked a twin room with a private bathroom for $95. The alley which led to the room was quite dirty, with dog mess around, and the doorway which led to our stairs smelt of stale urine.

The room itself was fairly clean, except for the spiders webs around the cooker area. However, the wall mounted aircon unit was not much use at all, and just took the edge off the 35 degree heat, but the room was still very hot.

If you do stay here I would take your own towels and pillows, the towels were tiny and very rough, and there was 1 little flat pillow each.

On the plus side it is in a fantastic postition in the heart of the old town.

A friend booked this place for three of us for 3 nights in July 2007, and what a stroke of luck it was to find somewhere so charming.
We arrived late in the evening, and one of the ladies who run the Denis Rooms came to meet us in Split and walk us through the old town to find them. Throughout our stay all the staff here were very friendly and helpful, and the whole place had such a laid back, welcoming vibe to it.
Our room had air-conditioning, offering a pleasant relief from the heat, and was spotlessly clean and tastefully decorated. With the windows and shutters closed at night the room was so quiet and dark it was impossible to believe one was in a bustling city centre. There were several hand-written notes in the room and in the kitchen which people had left with their thoughts regarding the Denis Rooms, I thought this was a nice touch, and of course, all the comments were positive!
Personally I cannot praise this establishment, and the beautiful city of Split, enough and would recommend them to anyone who appreciates relaxing, attractive destinations which don't cost a small fortune.

I stayed in Hotel Denis for three nights in June and it was a Godsend. I can't recommend it highly enough. Clean, friendly, safe, quiet and central.

They gave me coffee when I arrived, did my laundry for me when they didn't have to, made me feel welcome and were the most open people I met in Croatia.

It's not really like a hotel at all, it's more like staying at someone's house, only they let you have a free run of the place. There are three rooms in the main hotel, as well as a very clean toilet/shower room and a small kitchen. There is also a studio apartment next door.

There should be more hotels like it.

We booked 2 nights at Rooms Denis through hostel bookers. We reserved a double private ensuite room and cost us £44 a night for both of us.

The lady that met us was super nice and friendly, spoke excellent english and showed us to our rooms. We stayed 2 nights but a week apart so we had diiferent rooms.

First room was large and had kitchen area as well. The 2nd room was large but had fridge only.

Bathrooms small but clean.

Located in old town in great spot.

Would recommend Rooms Denis and directions provided to us to find them were fantastic.

Would say equivalent to staying in a pension.
