“Lovely family hotel, excellent food”

Hotel Consul is a small hotel with an excellent family suite at a good price. The staff are very friendly. It is close enough to the old town for easy access (even my 4 year old managed to go in and out of town several times in a day), if you do need to get a cab home, then it is a very reasonable price.

We were pleasantly surprised by the extensive menu and the quality of the food was excellent, well worth spending the evening at the hotel.

  • Liked — Good value, great food
  • Disliked — Access by car was a little restricted, but luckily it is a quiet road

“A Small, Quiet Hotel in an Historic City”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 June 2007

The Consul is the only hotel we have stayed at in Split, so I cannot compare it to others there. It was quite acceptable, but I would probably try a different hotel on a future trip for comparison. It is about a 15 minute walk from the old town (which is wonderful) and in a mostly residential neighborhood. The Consul is quiet and relatively small. It has a very decent restaurant and wireless Internet to which I was unable to connect (I think the system only spoke Croatian). In May, 2007, which was not yet high season, a standard room seemed fairly steep at KN920 per night for a double.

  • Liked — It was available.
  • Disliked — It was a bit out of the way.

“Alright for a night”

Hotel Consul was a decent, standard hotel not too far from the main tourist part of the town (about 15 min walk). Looks like it was converted from an old apartment building. The breakfast was excellent, and the rooms were comfortable and clean. But I thought the price (112 Euro) was a little high for what you got – but maybe that’s just Croatia in the high summer season.
We just stayed one night on our way out of Croatia after being in fantastic places like Hvar and Dubrovnik which are way more interesting than Split anyhow.
