“Lovely hotel, but know what to expect.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 September 2010

This is a really hard review to write! - I loved this hotel and it was perfect for our needs, however it will not be to everybody's taste. Don't go expecting a top class hotel or you will be disappointed. Know what to expect in advance and you will have a great stay.

The hotel is a former training camp for Olympic athletes, and hasn't changed a great deal since. We arrived earlier than the official check in time as we were on a very early flight. The receptionist was very happy to give us a room early - in fact he showed us 2 rooms and let us choose. One faced inland, but the other had a balcony with lovely sea views - we chose this one! The staff immediately brought in a cot for our daughter and set it up.

The room was basic with some old built in wardrobes and chest of drawers. The furniture was old, but mostly servicable. Don't expect the room to be equipped like a modern 4 star hotel and you won't be disappointed. The air conditioning worked but was a little noisy. The bed was comfortable and we had no problems sleeping. There was a TV in the room but we didn't use it.

The location is good. Far enough away from the old town to avoid the crowds, but only a 15 minute walk to the old town (which is amazing!). The walk could poosibly be done in 10 minutes by a fast walker. There are also several buses running between the hotel and the old town (number 8 and 12 to name a couple). Walking in the other direction along the sea front, you will pass by many places to swim, but if you keep going for 10 minutes you will reach a good beach with places to drink.

Breakfast was perfectly acceptable. Cold meat and cheese, coffee machine, cold boiled eggs, cereal, tea, fruit.

One of the biggest assets of the hotel are its 2 swimming pools. One lovely small children's pool at 0.8m depth, and a full size olympic swimming pool, both of which are free for guests to use.

We had an early flight on our last day, and reception arranged a car to take us to the airport for 220 Kuna (about £25). The journey took about 30 minutes.

If you go to this hotel expecting a slightly different experience you will have a good time. If you go expecting a modern 4 star hotel you will be disappointed. Give it a try - I did and I enjoyed every moment.

“Great location especially if you like running and swimming”

We only stayed one night but the location is great with a choice of two pools and the Adriactic sea right on your doorstep. It depends on what you want. It is definately sports club style and yes the rooms are pretty standard - ours had two single beds. But seriously how much time are you going to spend in your hotel room. Great bar right on the water front - we were there in summer so maybe it is different if the pools are closed but we really enjoyed it. You are also right on the coast so out to the left you have what appears to be a peninsular park with a great run that goes along the coast. Maybe fifteen minutes into town. Staff were really helpful. If you want five star luxury look for somewhere else but if you like the sun and swimming this is a great choice.

“Fresh and Clean, cool position, not expensive”

I was staying in Jadran just for one night. The hotel was not built yesterday, but it is so fresh (marine style), Internet connection fast, breakfast good. I stayed in a room without the view, but big and nice (everything seemed new).
If I should find some disadvantage of it, it would be bed (too soft for my taste).
Oh yes, it was pretty quiet as well.

“A good budget choice hotel in a great location!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 September 2009

Some of the reviews for this hotel are far from glowing but on arrival, I was pleasantly surprised; the reception area is marble lined and cool and the receptionist was very welcoming and helpful (as were all the staff). There is no lift but as there is only one floor, this is hardly a problem for able-bodied people. The airy room had a high ceiling and was plainly furnished and decorated; some of the furniture was looking a little worn but everything was clean and everything worked. Plenty of storage space in 2 large wardrobes but if there are two of you, take some clothes hangers as there weren't many provided. The tile lined bathroom was small but clean with shower, WC and washbasin, hair-dryer, good lighting and plenty of hot water. There was a small TV in the room, good lighting, air conditioning (although a little noisy) and a door onto the balcony; the view across the swimming pools and marina to the islands in the Adriatic was superb! (Rooms at the other side of the hotel don't have balconies and overlook the Marjan Hill and a public park) The rooms are very quiet and the hotel itself is situated in a quiet spot between a tree covered headland, a park, a small marina and the sea. However, it is a good 10 - 15 minutes walk to the centre of Split along the waterfront but it is an easy level walk. (A cash machine and bank is only about 2 - 3 minutes away from the hotel)
The breakfast is served in the restaurant and is an average continental style breakfast with a selection of cereals, cold meats and cheese, fruit, fresh breads, hard boiled eggs, yogurt, fruit juices, teas and coffees. Although not widely publicised, the bar and restaurant are open all day; the food and drink prices are comparable with prices outside the hotel and the food is freshly cooked to order. I had some good meals there so if you don't feel like walking back into the city, give it a try!
The Croatia Airlines bus from the airport stops at the other end of the sea front so from there it is 20 - 25 minutes walk but there are plenty of taxis waiting by the bus stop.
Whilst staying at the Jadran be sure to try the sea bathing in the small bays adjacent to the hotel and allow a couple of hours to climb up Marjan Hill for superb views over the city and the islands in the Adriatic.

“Great location and excellent facilities”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 June 2009

Having read some of the other reviews I wondered if I stayed in the same hotel. The Jadran was originally built as a sports training facility and has an olympic size swimming pool and gymnasium. Therefore it is not a 'purpose built hotel'. However the rooms were comforable and clean , the staff were very friendly went out of their way to make sure the stay was comfortable. The location is excellent - adjacent to the sea yet set in a quiet location a short walk from the centre. The breakfast was described as 'hot buffet' which i could take issue with as there were only some hot sausages. However the variety of cold food more than made up for this and was excellent quality. In summary very good value for money.
