Stayed here again in Summer of 2011. Accommodations remain phenomenal, literally inside a palace dating back to the Roman Empire. Apartment was clean and modern looking inside. All of Split's highlights, including the beach, were easily accessible. Hosts spoke near perfect English and were extremely friendly and accommodating. WiFi was a huge plus. The sound proof window shutters do a good job of keeping the outside noise out. Frankly, the location can't be beat and I can't expect complete silence in the center of Croatia's second biggest city..

The apartment we stayed in was in the palace walls and above a cafe. As previous reviewer mentioned the cigarette smoke was VERY annoying. I don't think I would stay here again because of the noise and smoke. I am aware that the owner cannot do anything about either of these things and I hate to lower the rating because of that. The owner was very helpful but the noise and smoke were a downer.

My wife and I spent Saturday and Sunday nights in one of the Kaleta Apartments on October 8 & 9, 2011. By calling ahead, we were met by a fellow (sorry forgot his name) and taken to our room. He told us that he was moving us to one of their new apartments as the other location had some construction near it. Our apartment was on the 2nd floor of an old building just outside of Diocletian’s Palace and shared a lobby (with computer) with 3 other rooms. The room was newly renovated and was a mix of old walls and modern facilities complete with small dinette, and with the amount of closet space we could have stayed there for weeks. There were welcome little touches like lots of individual coffee and tea choices, paper towels, soaps, etc. and satellite TV, thought as our host remarked “you don’t come to Split to watch TV”. The fellow was very helpful and showed us how every worked and was located, including a welcome drink. He has to be given high marks, as even when he had to come back later to show the dozy tourists how to work the European door lock, he remained polite and accommodating. The location was very good as it was central to the old town, yet tucked away from the crowds down a narrow alley. The only detraction was the noise level at night, granted it was Saturday (and Croatia’s Independence Day, although that didn’t seem a big deal), but the bar just down the alley was very noisy until about 2 o’clock and then the street cleaners and garbage collectors started about 5 o’clock which made for a restless night’s sleep (well for my wife at least). However, to be fair, there are a lot of bars and cafes in the old town and even the original apartment we were meant to be in was across from a bar. Overall, we enjoyed our stay at Kaleta Apartments.
