“Double room - Overpriced”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 July 2010

We stayed in the double room/apartment which seems to share a building with a shop and another apartment just down the street from the hostel itself. It cost us around £35 each per night; not extortionate but pricey enough for me to expect a pretty decent room. In fact for £40 each we had a gorgeous apartment to ourselves just outside the Old Town in Dubrovnik so I know you can get value for money even in the most expensive parts of Croatia. This is far from value for money.

The "bed" is in fact a sofa bed which I find unacceptable for what they charge for the room. It's rock hard and you have a choice of a paper thin pillow or a really thick cushion/removable arm rest for comfort. The TV only has one watchable channel due to poor reception, not a major issue really but why bother putting a TV in there if you can't watch it? There are no curtains so they've stuck paper over the windows, again not a major issue but it makes the room look tacky. The lack of curtains also means sound travels into the room very easily and the local pigeons like to congregate for a good ol' chinwag right outside the room at about 4am, so bear that in mind if you are a light sleeper! The bathroom is fine and the kitchenette is alright if a little basic, so no complaints there.

We were also cheated slightly on the price, we were quoted in Euros but paid in Kuna and were given the hostels own exchange rate which left us paying an extra 50 kuna. Not a fortune I admit but it started the stay off on the wrong foot.

This review no doubt makes me sound like a right moaner and I usually read negative reviews and think the same, but I'm actually very easy to please when it comes to hostels. This is the first (and hopefully last) time I've been moved to criticise a place I've stayed in. For the cost I have no doubt you will find nicer places to stay in Split

I cannot comment on the dorms as I did not see them, the fact that this place has primarily glowing reviews leads me to believe that they are pretty good

“right in the heat of the lovely lil streets of Split”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 October 2009

Stayed here while travelling in Croatia - picked it because lf its price and location. After finding it in the lil streets we were brought to a building around the corner where our room was. It was a lovely bright room and had air con. The 'Konzum' (croation for supermarket) was around the corner - less than a minutes walk which was brill!! I would say this place is more like a guesthouse/appartment style accomodation. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Oh and if you're looking for nightlife - go the beach area! Great cocktails! Would stay here again!

“Great price for old town location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 September 2009

Paid e44 for a Sat night for a private twin room with aircon, tv, wifi, extra bedding supplied if needed.

Called a hostel but really a guesthouse, stayed on top floor (3) a bit of noise from surrounding walkways as you are right in the thick of it here, but all went quiet after 12am, not bad for a Sat night I thought! Shared bathroom and kitchen on floor for use of the three rooms only, so pretty private.

Friendly, helpful staff, and locals are nice too.

Would stay again if I came back to Split.

“Great Location with A/C Rooms!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 July 2009

My sister and I stay in the twin beds private room in the hostel. We shared a bathroom and kitchen/common space with two couples. The room was fairly large and had its own air conditioning unit. I suspect there may have been bed bugs, but overall the hostel appeared to be quite clean. The bathroom was great as it had a large window for ventilation and towels were provided free of charge. We were also able to access the free WiFi in our room. It's close to everything you would want to see in Split with the slight downside of having to walk past the fish market to get there. Overall, this was our favourite place to stay in Croatia.

“Great Location Great Hostel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 July 2009

We stayed here for one night before leaving Split for Hvar the next day. The owners are very friendly and helpful and the apartment itself was clean and cosy. The location was perfect, a short walk to the ferry in the heart of Split. Perfect for a one or two night stay when you have a just a little time to look around. Word of warning, it's a little tricky to find and the streets are pedestrianised so a taxi can't drive you to the door. We asked in a hotel nearby and they were well used to people looking for it!
