“A bit disappointing - bad service and bad breakfast”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 April 2009

I stayed with two friends in a room facing the backyard. The room was fairly clean and the beds were ok. If this is all you are looking for you may well stay at Mozart hotel.

If you expect service, I would however not recommend this hotel.

The hotel was informed we would be three persons, but still the room was prepared just for two. We had to ask an unfirendly lady in the reception to get housekeeping to prepare an extra bed and extra towels, and were not exactly treated with a friendly smile.

Later we asked the same lady if the hotel had any maps of the city. The answer was simply "no". As it turned out they had one old map hidden behind the reception. This belonged to the hotel, and when we asked where we could buy a map, she did not know. When asked about sights and attractions in Odessa, she started pointing out the location of the most important sights at the map, but after a couple of minutes she informed us she had to attend to other guests and just left.

On the second day we had great expectations to the breakfast after the raving reviews at the hotel's own website. Breakfast was served until 12 because it was Easter, and we arrived around 10.00. At that point most of the trays were empty or half empty, and nothing were done to refill them. The cheese left on the buffet had melted, and the scrambled eggs were cold. At a point there was no more bread left, and no attempt was made to refill. If you add that it took about half an hour to get a cup of coffee, this was not a particulary sucessful breakfast experience...

If you have any other options...go for it!

“Very nice hotel”

This hotel is very nice, if not quite world class.

The lobby is nice, the staff helpful and the hotel is in good shape.

My room was excellent, frankly, but I think that I had a suite. It had a great view, working WiFi, a separate living room and bedroom.

Breakfast was quite good in a nice quaint dining room.

If you are from the west, the TV will probably not be of much use (just local stuff), but your probably in Odessa for the beaches, not the TV!

It can be a little hard to try to decipher real data from fake data on line, so I was happy when I got here to find it was genuinely nice.

“Second stay and would go back”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 October 2006

Booked this hotel through a local contact and paid about $200 a night in November 2005.

I was originally booked to stay for 2 nights but had my trip cut short after being stranded in Budapest on the way over (not a good experience).

As this was my second stay at the Mozart I roughly knew what to expect and wasn't disappointed. The room this time around was much bigger and more comfortable with large king sized bed and full bathroom (including bath and shower). There was a small mini-bar with not too expensive prices, TV and radio.

The hotel staff are quite friendly and helpful. They refunded the charge of my first night's stay as I never made it there. That was quite nice and I'm sure many other, larger, hotel groups wouldn't have done that.

The breakfast at the hotel offers a good choice of hot/cold food. I found it more than adequate to set me up for my day. Ask if you want anything special... omelette, egg on toast, boiled egg etc.

The hotel building is very nice with high ceilings in the rooms and big sash windows. It had a nice atmostphere and the rooms size/design varies enough to ensure they aren't too bland.

All in all an above average hotel. I'd stay again.

“Small rooms.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 September 2006

I orded a double room for two, and got this tiny little room where the double bed was just about the only thing there was room for. After some argue's, they managed to give me a better room, but for that they had to charce me extra. So i ended up paying 295$ for each night i stayed at the hotel. I had payed from already trough travelagent, and would have lost much of that money if i had decided to find a new hotel. The room i finally got was a average large room, with a good bed with nice pillows. Also nice minibar, with ok prices. There where no place to sit, only an office chair. It was very soundful out to the corridor, and standing in the corridor made it possible to hear every word people said in their rooms.
However, the reception and hotel on the outside looked very nice. And the people at the reception was mostly polite. And a few of them talked ok English. The breakfast was ok, and service at restaurant was excellent. The hotel is very central, close to the beautiful opera house. Walking distance to many nice places. This hotel have potentials and also give impressions to be a great hotel. But poor rooms with high prices and mediacre service from reception drags the hotel rating down.

  • Liked — Central and close to many nice places worth see for a tourist.
  • Tips/Secrets — Make shure you dont get the smallest rooms.

“classy and clean with a great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 May 2006

My friend chose this hotel based on the location and that he'd read that it was the fanciest hotel in Odessa. And while it didn't quite feel like "the fanciest" type of hotel, it was a very nice place. We wanted a three person room, which they weren't terribly accommodating about. In the end, we had two single beds and a sofa-bed, which we had to call and remind them to bring sheets for.

Although not a large hotel, it had enough amenities to keep us quite happy for three days. The room was very pleasant and comfortable. Nice robes, slippers, and toiletries--all the fancy hotel doodads that one would want. The breakfast buffet was a nice mix of Ukrainian and western breakfast foods, and included a little salad bar. I don't usually want a bowl of beets or corn for breakfast, but in Ukraine fruits and veggies and sometimes scarce, so I was pleased with the extra vitamin injection. We didn't eat at the restaurant, but we stopped in the small hotel bar a few times. It really was surprisingly small--two tables and a short counter (most seating is outside), so we couldn't always get a table. But they have great coffee which comes with a charming array of different kinds of sugar. There is a gym and tiny pool, but we didn't try them out.

The Mozart Hotel's greatest strength is probably its location: right downtown, across from the Opera House, easy walking distance from dozens of great restaurants and the Sea Port. I would happily have given this hotel five stars, if only the service had been a bit sharper. Twice we had to call and ask for towels for the room, and any time we went to the front desk with questions, the people working there seemed a bit distracted, or perhaps just not very knowledgable about their city.
