“Wonderful hotel in a beautiful city”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 May 2012 NEW

The location of this hotel is what makes it so special. Located on the main walking only boulevard it creates for a wonderful environment with port, beaches, sea, and city view. Right in the city center it makes it easy to reach anywhere.

The only downside i would say is 23euro breakfast that they really try to sell to you.

“Londonskaya a true classic hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 May 2012

This hotel was built in 1827 it is a classic. Great charm and elegence with twenty foor ceilings.
The Czar slept here:) It is big yet has a warm cozy feeling to it. The rooms are very nice but short of dresser space. the location on the park at the Black Sea cannot be beat and you are just 200 yards from the "steps".
Most of all it is the staff who genuinly make a foreign traveler at home. The manager, waite staff and desk people are friendly and speak some English. Even in the business center Natalia who is marketing Director is ready to help with a smile.
Londonskaya is a first class operation.

“Nice facade”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 May 2012

The hotel is in a great location, and has a gorgeous facade and lobby, but the charms stop there.
Most of the decently priced rooms are located, as others have mentioned, up three floors (as far as the elevator goes), and then a few minutes walk down a long corridor and up another set of steps. There's a view of a brick wall and ugly courtyard. Room was small and relatively clean (after we killed an enormous fly). But if you're there in summer, it will definitely be unpleasant with the air conditioning, which needs upgraded. The air conditioner they have is an antique and is more for aesthetics than actually cooling the room.

Service was typically uncaring Communist style. We arrived early in the morning, and although the room was free, the attendant offered us check-in only if we paid a halfday rate. I was shocked. Normally at supposedly NICE hotels, they offer you early check-in as a courtesy. Especially considering my wife is 6 months pregnant (ie, obviously pregnant), I was surprised the staff (a woman no less!) refused us this courtesy.

Next, we decided just to leave our bags and eat breakfast before leaving. We asked her what time it was open and she said 7AM, but did not mention the price, so we assumed it would either be 1) included in our room 2) or cheap as is most everything in Ukraine.

To start, the buffet was mediocre. Things were lukewarm or outright cold. No fresh fruit, just fruit from a can. One type of bread, one type of yogurt, powdered eggs, but we let it slide, because again, we thought it was either included or cheap.... So we were shocked when the bill came and it was 560 hryvnia (about $70). This price for this quality would be outrageous even in NYC. We were shocked.

The only other reason, we booked the hotel was the pool, and when we finally could check in, we were informed there was a pool, but there was no water in it. The staff, again, seemed to smirk to themselves.

If you stay here, consider yourself warned. Decent location and lobby/facade, but that's all. Go to the Mozart or another close and newer place.

“Nice but not without it's problems”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 April 2012

Rooms were amazing. We had a suite and a jr. suite. Facility was beautiful, clean and in a great location. Would stay again, but our visit had a few strange and unfortunate events!

We arrived very late and even though we request non smoking rooms, the jr. Suite was disgusting! Smoke practically hit you in the face when the door was open. They had windows open to air it out, but the smell was too prominent. It took two room changes and about another hour to get sorted. Although nice and helpful staff, it was a hassle! My father had a shower in the new, non smoking room, but when he went to dry off, the towels they gave them were heavily stinky with smoke. We think they just brought the towels from the first room! They were moved again the next day and that room was fine.

Breakfast WAY over priced! Go around the corner and there are many lovely places to have a coffee or a meal.

The other issue was the pool. Unknowingly, we found ourselves inappropriately dressed for a swim! Led by staff, we ended up standing on the edge of this beautiful spa facility with stunning pool. Clearly not in spa attire, we were asked by staff if "we could be helped". Once we discussed what we needed to do through broken English, we were just going to leave the area when a guest got out of the pool and told us we were dirty and we were not to be in that area. He yelled at my husband and me in front of our children. We told him we were sorting things and he continued to raise his voice and insult us. My daughter was so upset and scared she didn't want to go swimming. The staff member did nothing. Later when my husband and son went back for their swim in appropriate attire, my husband approached the man to let him know exactly what he tought! I called the font desk and told them I was not impressed!

Also, be careful of scammers in the promenade just outside the hotel. We had carriage ride drivers practically cornering us with the carriage to insist we take a ride and little bike rides for the kids were spoiled by paying for 5 mins and then when you went to pay the timmers said 20 mins!!! We owed 10$ and they wanted 80$!

In spite of all of this, the hotel facility was lovely.

Room Tip: Worth it to have a jr. suite or suite.

“Great location, classy hotel, that needs upgrades”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 April 2012

This is an excellent location, down the street from the Duc, and behind the opera house. The rooms on the 4th floor are not to be taken. If you are on the 4th floor you have to take stairs from the 3rd floor. The Doorman is outstanding. Eugene will get you anything you desire. From tickets to the theatre, to the choice of three beautiful girls in evening dress, to three different girls to spend the night with you.

The beds were european quality, and not american standard. It is a beauitful old hotel, and "old classy europe." If you need a central location, a good place for buisiness or pleasure, I would reccommend the place. It is not the most romantic place. However the breakfast was excellent and came with the room rate. Everyone in the city knows where you are and it is not considered a shabby place.

Room Tip: Do not stay on the 4th floor. If it rains, there will be rain drops comming through the ceiling. T...
