“Quiet, charming and good located little place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2011

We stayed for three nights at Cissus, and we enjoyed our time there. There are only 4 spacious rooms, with a colonial atmosphere, walking distance from the "plaza central". Perfect if you want to have a traditional touch and like quietness when you go back to your hotel. Service was good, not great, and we did not have lunch or dinner there, since there are great alternatives like Como-Como near by. Nice, rather large rooms, not luxurious but perfectky fine. Clean, antique looking bathroom.

“Very nice”

A very charming, beautiful place in a quiet location of Antigua. The staff were helpful and the master suite as expected. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

“"Shangra La" in Antigua”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 November 2010

Our stay at Hotel Cissus was arranged by our cousins, long time Antigua locals, which tells you a lot. My wife, adult daughter and I stayed in Studio Suite #2 and it was perfect ! The rooms were large and clean with many amenities. You enter via a 24 hour security buzzer. Walking into the lobby was like entering a lush sanctum of foliage - hiding our rooms and patios. Our private rooftop terrace was a delight for reading / relaxing and breakfast every morning - with a nice view of the volcanoes. Breakfast "Typica" was delicious and ample: eggs, breads, queso, frijoles, a great fruit plate, freshly squeezed juice and a carafe of coffee - luxurious ! The staff was charming - friendly, helpful and attentive. The location was also very convenient to the main Plaza, restaurants, attractions and shopping. We stayed more than a week and the quality of service was consistently excellent ! STEVE and ANN

“the perfect place to stay in Antigua”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 August 2010

We were going to stay in Cissus only for one night and we decided to stay longer. The rooms are perfect, the service fantastic and the location couldnt be better, very well located but very quiet. I loved the breakfast in the terrace. We stayed in rooms nomber 1 and 2 and also tried the suite, fantastic the three of them.
I would love to be able to find places like this all over the world.

“Our amazing villa”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 August 2010

Our first time in Antigua, we booked 3 nights in the Cissus Hotel based on reviews here onTripadvisor. The hotel arranged transportation from the airport ($20/person). After winding our way through the traffic jams and pollution of Guatemala City, we arrived in Antigua at the Cissus. A unassuming white plastered facade with the name "Hotel Cissus" in small letters affixed to the door. Entering were were warmly welcomed and taken to our room -- or should I say our private apartment. Our bedroom featured a very comfortable bed, a charming fireplace, and modern bathroom. And then we discovered that we also had use of a kitchen with a fullsize refrigerator, a small terrace directly outside our bedroom, and a private upper terrace where, whether permitting, we were served a wonderful breakfast by the attentive staff as we admired the view of the imposing volcano that towers over the city. The plantings and furnishings throughout the hotel were beautiful. We can't imagine finding a more romantic and comfortable hotel stay anywhere in Antigua or anywhere else.

For Antigua, the cost of our 3-night stay was on the high side, but for use of a "private villa" in Europe or even the US what we paid was quite a bargain.

The Cissus does not have a restaurant, a plus we thought given the many great restaurants withing a short walk of the Cissus.

Just a wonderful experience.
