This is our second visit to Entre Volcanes (last time was a year and a half ago). The rooms are simple and clean and the building has a lovely colonial character with an interior courtyard open to above and a garden area and safe enclosed parking area in the back where you can access your car easily if needed. They have a great, fresh traditional breakfast served until 10:30 and the cook prepares your eggs to order. We had black beans, platanos, fruit, scrambled eggs with onion and tomato, fresh bread and coffee with delicious 'tostadas', crispy cookies to dip in your coffee. The rooms are a little dark as the windows only open onto the interior courtyard, the bathrooms a little cramped, but there are lots of nice little touches: nice linens, a bench to put your suitcase on, large towels. The also have a pretty roof terrace on the fourth level with a view over central Antigua. The hotel is on the west side of central Antigua near the public market and is on a busy street so it is a bit noisy. We were on the third floor toward the back and the noise was not a problem at all. It is just a 4 or 5 block walk to the central park with lots of shops, restaurants, ruins and so on to pass along the way. A new addition from last visit, they now have wireless internet available and although we had to wait an hour or so for the owner to get back with the password, it was easy and reliable. The owner is very friendly and helpful and speaks perfect English and the rest of the staff make you feel more like you're visiting a distant relative than staying in a hotel. With an advertised price of $80 per night for a double, this hotel is a great deal in Antigua. Its not a luxury hotel with pool and room service, but I highly recommend it as a comfortable home base and excellent value.
