My husband and I recently traveled to Antigua and had the good fortune to find this stunning hotel tucked just outside the heart of La Antigua. From the moment we arrived every care was taken to make our stay comfortable and pleasant. If you have traveled to Guatemala before you may have noticed that many of the hotels boast about their amenities and their ability to offer them at a low price. The truth, however, usually ends up being that you get much less than was promised. This is not the case for this Antigua hotel. In my opinion,and compared to the prices of our other hotels, Plaza Real offers amenities that are usually only offered at very expensive hotels and they do it for a very reasonable price. The hotel itself is newly built but was carefully designed to look as though it has been standing (and well cared for) for hundreds of years. Each room opens to a shared courtyard as is very well decorated with it's own personal touches. And I must point out that each and every room has it's very own jacuzzi!. The staff was outstanding and the hotel was very, very clean. I own a guest house and know where to look for potential cut corners in the cleanliness department so let me assure you that they do a very thorough job. The hotel offers spa services at more than reasonable prices in their gorgeous spa located just yards away from the main section of the hotel. They also have a restaurant where they serve three meals a day that you can enjoy in a beautiful dining room or have it sent to your room. We felt very well taken care of during our stay and would even go so far as to say we were treated like family. I will continue to stay here each time I travel to Antigua and would definitely recommend it.

We got here, as the hotel was offered to us by the agency as a back-up option instead of a double-booked other one in the absolute high season (Semana Santa).
Positives: Stylish, full of character from the outside. It's not worse than any of the bigger name ones from that point of view. Room has a character too.
Negatives: Location is far from great. It's outside the center, and quite dodgy to walk on its street after dark. They might have spent a bit more to make the room comfortable, than to desperately try to make it stylish. The fake antique is a bit tasteless. It was weird that we could not find a single person in a hotel in such a turistique town, who could speak an other language than Spanish.

In general OK, don't believe the rubbish about the safety locker, the hair dryer and the towells. These basic things are all fine.

The price is unreasonably high as well

This is a small hotel. We liked it when we got there but when we saw the room it wasn’t what we expected. When we asked if we could change it, they just say no. We were there in high season so; we couldn’t find something else in another hotel so we decide to stayed there. We wait a little bit till they clean our room but it has no towels, so we called 2 times to front desk asking for those. 15 minutes later finally towels. Next day we are at the Volcano, when we came back at night they didn’t make the room but they took the towels we had. So, I had to call 3 times again asking for towels, 30 minutes later my boyfriend decide to go to front desk to see what was happening and he found the front desk guy watching TV with the guard, so that’s what the reason why they never took the towels to the room. We also wanted to ask for room service, but the restaurant close early so, if you are hungry, you will have to go somewhere else.

If you need a hair dryer, they don’t have. There’s no safe box. We think that room was too expensive for what they offer. $80 per night it wasn’t a good deal.
