“Helpful & friendly”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 November 2008

We stayed here at 2 separate times and found that other reviews on this site to be accurate. The first time was downstairs in a very cramped dark corner room. Then we came back and asked for an upstairs room, which was such a difference. The room was spacious, the bathroom and shower huge and it had lots of natural light and ventilation and was cheaper than the price posted on the website - $45. So - be sure to ask for an upstairs room - no. 10 is the best room. Since the rooms are at the back it is fairly quiet here. Additionally there is a relaxing roofed patio area with hanging chairs and a dining area. The hotel is well located with the market and bus station at the end of the street, a large supermarket right opposite and the square about 3 blocks away. The staff were extremely helpful when we misplaced one of our bags at a nearby restaurant. and friendly at all times.

“Go for a triple on second floor”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 November 2007

We dropped in without reservation, and was given a tiny twin room on first floor. It was ok, but very musty and cramped. Second day we moved to a triple room on second floor, paying a little bit more. This was like another world. The room was normal size for a triple, but the bathroom was enormous. Largest shower ever. The bath was actually about the same size as the first room we had (incl. its bathroom)!

Staff was very helpful, smiling and knowledgeable. We even hitched a ride with one of them to the airport at 4 am on the morning of departure, and payed the same for this "private transport" as we would have payed for a cramped minibus from an agency! They made calls about trips and things, and was constantly smiling.

Location is good, 2 to 3 blocks from main square. The town´s biggest grocery store is across the street, and lavanderias and farmacias are plentiful. It is also very conveniently located if you arrive or leave by bus (half a block from bus station).

  • Liked — Spacious triple room (it´s worth the extra bucks!)
  • Disliked — Tiny twin we had first night

“Better to look elsewhere”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 February 2006

I just stayed for 3 nights in Landivar in a single room and was very disappointed. Although it wasn't in Tripadvisor (which as we all know is always risky!) it was recommended by my Footprint guidebook. I had a single room for US$20 per night (included cable TV). But it had no natural light and was essentially a large box room. The room was grimy in general, although the bed was ok, but I saw 3 cockroaches during my stay and the room was 10 meters from the front door and the office, with tiled floors you could hear everything - including the deskman's TV and he didn't go to bed until midnight. There are now many, many hotels in Antigua, my advice is to go somewhere like Casa Florencia or just turn up and look at a few of them. Antigua is a small place, it won't take long to find a good place. Maybe the double rooms in Landivar are better - they were around a courtyard at the back, but for a single look elsewhere.
