I was horrified to read the terrible review about the Goss family and their bed and breakfast. I stayed at their B&B in March 2005 with my three month old daughter and will be returning again this month (April 2005) because it was such a welcoming environment and VERY kid friendly. In fact, while I stayed at Antigua B&B, there were two separate adoptive parents staying with their babies. These parents met while staying at the B&B and lived there, while awaiting final adoption approval, for more than one month each. I witnessed one of them leave after 6 weeks and it was a tearful experience for her to leave the Goss's after such a positive, lengthy stay. She, like myself, was treated EXTREMELY well. Evelyn loves to hold people's babies and Mark even went so far as to wash my bottles for me! Truth be told, I felt a bit guilty that the three of us were taking over the place with our babies. Mark and Evelyn seemed only glad that we were there and have welcomed my daughter and I back this month. I seriously question the behaviour of the Norwegian couple that would elicit a forced removal from Antigua B&B. My guess is they deserved it!

The people who runs it are an American/Guatemalan couple Mark & Evelyn Goss.

We are two Norwegian women who were travelling with a small baby girl (18 months old) that feel we were being mistreated by these people.
Via e-mail we made an agreement with them for a three week stay. Three days before this period was over, we were told to leave the house immediately, or the police would come and throw us in jail. We were told that this was Guatemala and that we were trespassing.
You might think that we had been difficult, and that the Goss couple had reason to throw us out, but the reasons they gave us were that the deal we had was too good, and that the girl had been touching things... This happened on a Friday afternoon in high season in Antigua, not the easiest time to find a new place to stay...with a baby and lots of luggage.

They are running a hotel which they advertise for on the internet as:

Mi Casa es Su Casa....

With the touch of a warm and personal home

Cozy, Nice and Relaxing.....

.....among other things...


The story above should tell you that this is very far from the truth... A little anecdote might tell you how personal they were: after a couple of weeks of stay Evelyn exclaims when she sees the little girl standing: “Wow, she is standing alone!” The girl had been walking already for a couple of months...
