“Best of our Guatemala trip”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

I admit that I really tried to book inexpensive places on this trip, and most of our rooms were quite spare - so it was a real treat to stay at Posada El Antano. Our room was quiet, the beds felt delicious, we had a fireplace in our room and a skylight in the bahroom. The courtyard was filled with fresh cut flowers in huge vases, and there was a circular staircase that went up on the roof where you could get a great view of the city, sky and mountains. We didn't know breakfast was included, so that was a plus. A definite pleasure to stay here!

“Beautiful, Reasonable Price and great location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 July 2011

Location is great and hotel is really nice. It is a small hotel with wonderful staff who tends to your every need with no hesitation. The rooms are a good size and nicely decorated. The room rate includes a breakfast...you choose from a few menu options. Our airline, TACA, lost part of our luggage for an entire week. My husband and I went on to Lake Atitlan for a few days before returning to this hotel for a night. While at the lake El Antano stored our belongings and received and stored our luggage that was delivered there once it was located by the airline. All worked out well because of their trustworthy ways. The morning of our departure we had to be up by 3:30, they woke us and even fixed us a box breakfast for our drive to the airport. IT IS A PERFECT HOTEL for anyone on a budget yet looking for a nice, clean place to stay.

“Nice hotel in good location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 March 2011

Stayed at this hotel as a little overnight get away for myself. I chose it for a couple reasons, the location is good and I liked the rooms (as I saw on the website). I stayed in the master suite, with a tub for two (rare in Guatemala I think) large 4 poster bed and real fireplace. Bathrobes, WiFi and a small fridge were nice touches.

I had no trouble with noise, although it may have been the location (not directly beside the hostel next door) and for the most part really enjoyed the room.

The breakfast that was included wasn't great...but ok. The room was smaller than I expected and the 'private balcony' was just a small ledge (not large enough to stand on).

Other than that I would give it a good review. The hotel is small but charming and very nice. Fresh flowers and nice little places to sit... all in all a nice stay.

“I'd Choose Elsewhere Next Time”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 March 2011

Posada el Antano is in a fairly good location, only one block from the Arco de Santa Catalina and its many good restaurants and shopping opportunities. The public areas are attractive and offer a respite from the noise of the street. The wireless internet is also a nice feature.

However, I'd choose another place to stay the next time around in Antigua. For one, the noise at night from the Kafka Hostel/bar is a real drawback. It enters into the inner courtyard where all the rooms are located. Next, if staying more than a few nights, the very limited breakfast choices quickly grow old. In terms of the bathroom in Room #12, I wasn't thrilled with the mold on the shower, the flush mechanism on the toilet malfunctioning all the time, nor with having to wait 3 or 4 minutes for hot water. Finally, please be advised that the hotel charges a 12% (yes, 12%!) surcharge for using credit cards to pay for the stay. If you do stay there, remember to bring along cash to settle the bill.

“Nice hotel--terrible neighbors”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 February 2011

This hotel is fine. The service is nice, the location is central, and the rooms are adequate. The problem is the neighbor--Kafka Hostel--which is awful. Every night the music is loud and the "guests" are noisy. It is impossible to sleep. The staff at Kafka has no respect for the remainder of the neighborhood. The posada's staff is ineffectual and the police are of no help. If you're interested in living the 90s slacker "wish-I-could-smoke-weed-and-listen-to-Merengue-for-the-rest-of-my-life" dream, this is your place. If you want to sleep at night, look elsewhere.
