“Lovely and Quiet with helpful staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 October 2011

My wife and I spent four nights at Casa Capuchinas along with our daughter and her husband. This former convent still retained the appearance of a walled cloister, but with rooms that were very comfortable and large. The rooms still had the original tile floors and wooden ceilings which were in great condition. Each morning we enjoyed a delicious breakfast that was cooked to order (included in price). Bread, fruit, tea and coffee were also available. The staff were always ready to help us. The hotel is only a brief walk to the center of town. Would gladly return to Casa Capuchinas any time.

“Ruins and Guatemalan hospitality par excellence”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 August 2011

When we arrived at the location, it was dark and rainy. Our shuttle pulled up to the poorly lit street and when the driver said that this was it, I was horrified. I wondered what I had done with this booking. Little did I know how wrong I was! The management led us into a beautifully decorated outdoor living room, complete with hanging plants and a coffee table. We were immediately made comfortable, given directions to find somewhere to eat and treated like old family friends. Located directly across the street from the ruins was interesting although it was sometimes noisy from the government officials visiting and dogs nearby. I would, however, stay there again in a heartbeat and feel like I was back at home.

Room Tip: Tasteful, beautiful and welcoming.

“Uniquely comfortable with excellent service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 August 2011

My parents, my husband and I had a wonderful 4-night stay at Casa Capuchinas. The fact that the grounds were part of a convent intrigued us, and the decor was lovely - each room is differently decorated, all with wooden ceilings, tile floors and some with fireplaces. The staff members went out of their way to be helpful. We were pleasantly surprised to find that we could choose from a cooked breakfast (Guatemalan or continental style) or bread/tea/fruit, all included in the room price. We slept soundly in this quiet hotel which is a short walk to the center of town. The courtyard was also a lovely place to relax and enjoy the springlike weather.

“Excellent Choice”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 July 2011

This is probably our 4th or 5th time in Antigua and we have stayed at quite a few different places (Posada de Don Rodrigo, Posada San Pedro,Hotel Santa Clara) with Casa Capuchinas being our favorite place. We came in on a Sunday and will leave tomorrow (Wednesday). The weekends are busy here, but we have been the only ones during the weekdays. We were given room #7 which is enormous - a large king bed with a twin in a separate room. Hot showers, beautiful garden, comfortable beds, wifi, excellent breakfast. Currently there is an internet special for $59 including taxes and breakfast. It is an amazing place and we plan to return.

Room Tip: Room #7 & 8 are the largest rooms.

“A peaceful oasis close to the center of town.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 February 2010

Some recent reviews have been negative, so we thought we would add our opinion. We have stayed at Casa Capuchinas several times over the past few years and have always found the place to our liking. It's tucked away behind a wall across from the Capuchinas ruins on 2 Avenida Norte, about 4 blocks from the central plaza. There are 8 rooms, and the ones to the back of the property on the upper level are especially nice; they are larger and probably quieter than the others, but all the rooms appeared to be decent. It's an old building with a central garden, and the place fits well with the colonial atmosphere of Antigua. The rooms were clean and comfortable, the staff were most helpful (but did not seem to speak English, if that's important to you), and the breakfast was more than ample (either tipico or Americano). We paid $79 per night, with breakfast, and the price seems like good value for money at that rate. I expect that prices are higher around Semana Santa, but that's probably true for most other places in Antigua. We would happily go back again.
