“Not one complaint”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 February 2010

This hotel is one of my top five in Central America. For Antiqua it's on the expensive side $120 per night for two with Breakfast included but worth every bit.
The rooms are large with antiques and very comfortable beds, extremely clean, private, and quiet. The staff is like none other, always available to help and accommodate (they all speak good English).
The security in the hotel is non-intrusive but well trained. We never had a problem or even saw a problem in Antigua but you do feel well cared for at the hotel.
The restaurant was on the expensive side but quite good. All the food is natural and freshly made.
We stayed here for four nights and at the end of long days it was wonderful to go back to our room.

“Highly recommend Antigua. It's Volcanoes are breath taking.”

A tourist favorite with 3 vlocanoes surrounding the town; most notable is the water volcano which can be climbed in 2 to 3 hours. Plenty of markets (mercados) and beautiful ancient churches, convents, and hotels.

“Charming Hotel Exuding Old World Charm”

I stayed here for one night enroute from Lake Atitlan to Tikal (Antigua is only an hour from the Guatemala City airport if you aren´t travelling during rush hours). This hotel was recommended to me by my local Guatemalan guide and was a last minute booking.

Staff was very friendly and helpful.

For $80 I had a large room in a private courtyard with 4 other rooms. It had a small double bed and a small TV and a very nice and modern shower and separate toilet. There were no cupboards or hanging space but I didn´t need it. Being an old converted mansion, the soundproofing is not great, but that was the only downside to the place,

My 4:00 AM wake up call was punctual to the second.

The hotel is very central and there are loads of trendy bars and restaurants all around.

“Dine here, Stay at Casa Florencia”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 September 2009

I stayed in Antigua on my first 2 nights and last 2 nights of this trip. This was my 5th trip to Antigua. I usually stay at Casa Florencia, but they were fully booked on my last 2 nights. After checking out 3 other hotels, I settled on Posada de Don Rodrigo for its location and a special price. It is located by the Arch which is a very good location. The staff is excellent. I found the restaurant to be very good with a nice view of an inner courtyard. Having said that, the fact is it is not up to the standards that I am used to when staying at Casa Florencia. First, unlike Casa Florencia, there are no ceiling fans in the rooms, which can make it a little stuffy. Second, there was dust on the chairs outside my rooms, something you would NEVER see (read the reviews) at Casa Florencia. Third, when I wanted my morning coffee, I had to order it from the restaurant and felt obligated to tip the server. Fourth, the staff is so eager to help you with your bags that when I was checking out of the hotel, I put my bag outside my room and went back in for a final inspection and when I came back out, the bag was gone. I thought it was stolen. Then, I found out it was the bellman, who needed to be tipped. Frankly, I am happy to fetch my own coffee and carry my bag. If you need to be coddled, this may be your place. For me, I would rather stay at Casa Florencia ( a few short blocks away) for about half the price and use the savings to cover my food expenses.

“Almost Perfect”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 September 2009

I am a hard customer when it comes to hotels. I want my hotel to be perfect, when perfection doesnt really exist. I have been to this hotel two times this year and find it an enjoyable experience. I look forward to a return visit if I am fortunate.
You cant go to this hotel expecting a Ritz or even a Hilton or Marriott experience. What you can expect is charm, service, colors, fragrances, gardens, delightful location, tasty breakfast, relaxing hammocks and the flavors of Antigua and Guatemala from the moment you cross the wooden threshold of the hotel door until you fall asleep.
The beds arent the most comfortable, there are fancier hotels in Antigua, the rooms arent spectacular, but the people who work at the hotel are service oriented and the feel of the property may even bring a smile to your traveling soul.
The last time I was at the property my family and friends woke up early because of jet lag from flying in from Madrid the day previous. We were up and raring to go before the hotel was even thinking about starting the day. While we hung out guietly on the computers the hotel staff provided us with Guatemalan coffee and tea that set a perfect tone to a perfect day.
By the way, both times at this hotel have been off season. I am anxious to see what the hotel and the city are like during season.
