I stayed in Antigua on my first 2 nights and last 2 nights of this trip. This was my 5th trip to Antigua. I usually stay at Casa Florencia, but they were fully booked on my last 2 nights. After checking out 3 other hotels, I settled on Posada de Don Rodrigo for its location and a special price. It is located by the Arch which is a very good location. The staff is excellent. I found the restaurant to be very good with a nice view of an inner courtyard. Having said that, the fact is it is not up to the standards that I am used to when staying at Casa Florencia. First, unlike Casa Florencia, there are no ceiling fans in the rooms, which can make it a little stuffy. Second, there was dust on the chairs outside my rooms, something you would NEVER see (read the reviews) at Casa Florencia. Third, when I wanted my morning coffee, I had to order it from the restaurant and felt obligated to tip the server. Fourth, the staff is so eager to help you with your bags that when I was checking out of the hotel, I put my bag outside my room and went back in for a final inspection and when I came back out, the bag was gone. I thought it was stolen. Then, I found out it was the bellman, who needed to be tipped. Frankly, I am happy to fetch my own coffee and carry my bag. If you need to be coddled, this may be your place. For me, I would rather stay at Casa Florencia ( a few short blocks away) for about half the price and use the savings to cover my food expenses.
