“Never again”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 January 2011

We stayed 2 nights at Qachoch and will never stay there again. First off, they said the AntiguaDaily card I had wasn't the real card and that I had to buy the real card in order to get the discount. I had no idea how to argue with that. It was already pretty cheap so it didn't seem like a big deal at the time. Then at night, I found out that they padlock everyone into the hotel. Unfortunately I didn't find this out until the second night. There is also a night guard but he disappears for hours at a time. On our second night, we were asleep by 11pm. At about 12:30, there was loud banging on the front door. This continued for about 20 min. Finally I got up to see what was going on. There were 2 guys returning for the night trying to get back to there room. I tried to let them in but the padlock was on the door. I looked for the guard and the keys and couldn't find either. After another half hour of searching, the guard came strolling up whistling. When we asked where he had been he just laughed. I talked to the owner the next day but she didn't seem to think it was much of an issue.
So if for some reason you decide to stay at this hostel, I strongly suggest staying in a room as far away from the front door as possible and pray that a fire doesn't break out in the night because more than likely, you wont be able to get out of the building.

“nice place”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 May 2010

Although I’d read conflicting commentaries about this hostel, I still decided to go to there. I have
to say that I liked it from the start, and for the week I spent there, everything was really good:
cleanliness of the room, friendliness at the reception, the breakfast. Only the laundry service was
“hard” to find, but there are enough ‘lavanderias’ in La Antigua anyway. For the price they
charged me, it was fantastic!

“Cheap, albeit a bit nasty.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2010

At only Q50 a night for a private room, this seemed like quite a good deal. The room was nice enough, but certainly basic. And there was free wifi. But that's about it. There is only a single bathroom to service the entire hostel, so using it was certainly never a pleasant experience. Our room had a window metres from the main area, so we were kept awake constantly. I also highly suspect they didnt change the bedsheets from the previous occupants.

After we realised that there were nearby hostels for the same price, with significantly better services, we quickly moved. I definitely suggest browsing around first! (And always try the beds first)

“Watch out for the sink trick!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 October 2008

This was the only hotel I stayed at that wasn't in a guide book. A street hustler convinced my Israeli friend that we should take a look. Everything started out fine- rooms were good enough for the price. However, when I left for lunch I went to wash my hands and discovered there was no water in the downstairs back bathroom. I informed the manager, who was very skeptical for some reason. That evening, I tried it again, but there was still no water. The shower worked, so my friend went to take a shower. When he got out, he rested his hand on the sink and the whole thing fell off the wall and almost smashed his foot. As if this wasn't bad enough, later that night the hotel staff demanded we help pay for the repair. My friend asked to speak to the owner. Supposedly she drove by and told the front desk girl she changed her mind and we would not have to pay. However, the other guy working the desk who is also their handyman continued to demand we pay. At one point he even threatened to call the police, to which we replied that we WANTED him to call the police. He refused, of course. After much arguing, we left and the hotel refused to refund the money we had paid for the rooms.
