To see the public spaces in this hotel, you would think it quite nice. And it could be! Other than the fact that there was only one outlet (being used by a weak reading lamp), a broken flushing mechanism on the toilet and no cross ventilation in some of the rooms (absolutely necessary in a country where most hotels have neither heat nor air con), all of the problems that I saw could be corrected by better management.
Each person was allocated one threadbare towel, no glasses were provided, no bottled water (a suspect looking urn was in the lobby), and a very bad smell would leave after a day of airing (this could not be done in the rooms with no windows that could be securely left open).
Management issues were apparent at breakfast: three pancakes were allowed on Friday but only two on Saturday, when I asked for milk for my tea the answer was "no," the third day when I asked for yogurt which had been there the two days before, the answer was "no, just milk," when I tried to get a glass to take to my room, they wanted to know my room number. It would have been funny if we weren't so mad.
We had prepaid for three rooms through Elizabeth Bell. One of the rooms had to be changed twice and those people finally checked out due to filthy conditions. I must have had a different maid because my room was relatively clean however, together the bedside light and the overhead light were too weak to read by. We all wanted to leave but Elizabeth Bell turned the first couple away telling them that there was no way she could get them a refund. The second couple started telling her staff all the individual problems and they were promised a refund and given a beautiful room in another hotel. I think the squeaky wheel got the grease!
This hotel seems to cater to European tour groups who are only there one night. After everyone goes to bed, it is relatively quiet till about 6am when breakfast preparations start: staff noise, moving furniture, etc.
I would definitely not recommend staying here and specifically, do not prepay!
