“Friendly staff, good value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 December 2011 via mobile

We stayed in Casa Bellona for three nights and were very satisfied with the hotel.
The best point was the staff, very friendly, giving fair recommendations and advice. They organized for us 4 transfers and 1 excursion and We were very pleased.
The rooms were simple but clean. We could use the fridge and drink glasses of water for free. It also had an enjoyable atmosphere in the upstairs terrace with incredible views!!

“Best Casa in Antigua, Guatemala”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 March 2011

I love this Casa, a home from home and a good place to base yourself to then travel around Guatemala and beyond. I had a room and you get all the basic amenities (wifi, pc use, hot water) plus: a living room with a good selection of movies; a pretty little outdoor courtyard to hang out in; a nicely stocked kitchen so you can do your own cooking and save money.

The hosts--owner Daniela from Netherlands and the manager Juan. Both are very friendly and extremely helpful on all your travel planning and Daniella gets the best, cheapest and most competitive tour ticket prices to nearby sights (like to the Pacaya volcano, Rio Dulce, Flores, Panajachal and beyond) -- all at reasonable rates.

The Casa is a short walk to the town centre, Parque Central with a great bakery and tienda's close by. If you are tight on budget, you cant go wrong staying at this hotel. I would highly recommend this Casa, and did to everyone I met on my travels through Guatemala! I will certainly return to Antigua and Casa Bellona.

Room Tip: Stay for over a week and get a cheaper rate.

“Wonderful budget hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 March 2011

Great value. I stayed in the dorm room for essentially $6 and you get all the basic amenities (wifi, pc use, hot water) plus: a living room with a good selection of movies; a pretty little outdoor courtyard to hang out in; a nicely stocked kitchen.

The best thing about the hotel are the hosts--owner Daniela from Netherlands and the manager Juan. Both are very friendly and extremely helpful on all facets of your travel planning. They definitely make you feel welcome. Daniela and Juan also can make travel arrangements to your next destination as well as tours to nearby sights (like to the pacaya volcano) -- all at reasonable rates.

The hotel is about a 7 min walk to the town center which is not a negative at all. On the plus side, a great bakery and good street vendors are close to the hotel. And the walk itself passes through some of the quieter, more rustic parts of town.

If you are tight on budget, you cant go wrong with this option.

“Feels like home”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 January 2011

My brother and I spent New Years at Casa Bellona and could not have asked for a better experience. I will begin by saying that this place is a bit far from the park, which our first night we thought was a problem, but once we knew where we were going we realized that it was completely safe to get to Casa Bellona and it was really only a 10 minute walk to the park.

Casa Bellona is small. It has four private rooms and one dorm. But all of the rooms are based around a courtyard that has three hammocks and a table with chairs, which encouraged a very social atmosphere. Additionally they have a great kitchen and TV room with computer which make it feel like home.

The owners of Casa Bellona also own Villa Esthela, which is a slightly larger hostle about two blocks away. All guests at Bellona are given free drink tickets to the roof top bar at Villa Esthela. in addition to being a great place to grab a drink, Esthela had amazing views of the entire city, and was hands down one of the best places i could imagine to watch all the fireworks for New Years.

As for the comments made by others about the showers. You just have to know how to use them and then they are actually really good. As with many places in Guatemala the showers are heated by electricity rather than gas. So the more you turn the shower on the less heat you get. So when you turn the shower on just a little bit you have a completely hot shower.

“nice enough, showers and breakfast could be better”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 April 2010

the biggest advantage of this place is how quiet it is at night. no clubs or bars nearby. another plus is the shared kitchen where guests can store and prepare their own meals.

negatives were the lukewarm showers and minimal breakfasts (fruit, toast and jam). if you want to be closer to the center, enjoy full breakfasts and hot showers, you should stay at El Hostal. if you want peace and quiet and don't mind walking 10 minutes to the center and to all restaurants/bars, you should stay at casa bellona.

i'm also concerned that the owner doesn't have enough help, her only employee seems to be a cleaning woman who only cleans the bathrooms once a day (that i was aware of).
