“Honeymoon From Hell”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 January 2011

DO NOT STAY THIS HOTEL!!!!! My husband and I stayed here for our honeymoon and the jacuzzi suite we were in was filthy. the bathtub had what looked to be blood stains and dirt in it. the sheets were torn blankets were stained. The water wasnt hot all day one of the days we were there. My husband took a shower and when he went to dry off the towel fell apart. when we returned home we called corparate headquarters to complain and were sent a voucher for a free night and $20 worth of food and drinks in the restuarant. Mind you we spent over $1000 dollars while we stayed there. And $20 would only feed one of us one meal and thats it! the voucher expired before we could use it as we had no car at the time. Also while most of the staff did try to make us happy they had one chick behind the counter who was all attitude and when i finally had had enough and one of the girls tried to call the manager he refused to answer his phone. My husband is a marine and it made him cry! Needless to say we will never go back!!!! one other thing my husband is handicapped and they have no handicapped accessible jacuzzi rooms!!! No elevators only a double staircase.

“Dirty!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 August 2010

I stayed at this hotel this week, Checked in at midnight and it took over one and a half hours to locate a room with clean sheets. We went to four different rooms. Each one of the four had dirty stained pillow cases (you could see the stains through the cases), there was hair in the beds and on the pillows like they didnt change the sheets from the last person. One of the rooms we were in had yellow stains all over the mattress pad--you could see the stains through the sheet. When I pulled the sheet up to show the girl from the front desk how dirty it was not only was it stained but had pubic hair all over it. Everytime we went to a new room she kept saying "i'll see what I can find" never apologized for how dirty it was. She finally gave us brand new pillows, sheets and matress pad but the comforter that she left on the bed had chocolate or blood dripped on it. I took it off the bed and just went to the front desk with it. The next comforter she brought out had a yellow stain on it too. She finally gave me a brand new comforter too. This place doesnt look bad at a glance but is getto. They still had us checked into the other rooms when we left and tried to charge us for three nights. We only stayed two (we tried to go to Ann Arbor or the Holiday Inn down the street before we stayed there but everything was booked because of Nascar week). It was a total train wreck! There was some sort of domestic violence going on in the parking lot that could have been very ugly for the guests there. The bar manager just asked if it was bothering anyone. I told her that it was pretty bad taste to allow that to continue...she did not ask them to leave or call the police. I asked for the manager to speak to me but he never did. This hotel obviously does not staff enough housekeeping and has very poor management. Dont stay here unless you have to.

“Nice rooms, and nice amenities -- if a bit small”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 July 2010

We -- two adults, two teens -- stayed at the Carlton Lodge in Adrian for two nights the second weekend in July while at a family wedding.

Parking was free, easy, and plentiful. The sign for the lodge seemed to appear out of nowhere, and we did miss the turn while coming into town on one of the main highways, so be watchful!

The room was nice; the queen beds were nice; the bathroom was nice; the pillows were run-of-the-mill. Is it that hard to get nice pillows? Or do they just take a beating? Ah, well. We often bring our own pillows.

The pool was funky -- truly, an indoor/outdoor pool, literally! A plexiglass divider that you had to swim under separated the two. One assumed it was a heated pool (and the website says it is, but we've learned not to trust that!), but we didn't use it. It looked clean, but it wasn't that big.

The restaurant/bar also doubled as the breakfast area. Again, clean, but not terribly big. We ate both mornings in the lobby, which is immediately adjacent. I wonder whether noise from the bar would distract in the lobby or the rooms that might be near the lobby. (To reach some of the rooms on the first floor, you had to go right through the bar; some of the upstairs rooms near the stairs in the middle of the lobby surely would get noise, as well.) Now, we didn't ever hear any noise, but our room was a ways away, and we also were at a wedding and evening dinner/reception.

Re: other comments about service, our service was good: attentive, pleasant, helpful, to the degree we needed help. But it seemed like staffing was geared toward maximum efficiency; I may be mistaken, but it seemed as if the Sunday morning desk clerk also was required to refresh items on the breakfast buffet. That would take her away from the desk, of course, even though the two areas are within sight and but a short walk away. Still, it doesn't seem guest-friendly to stretch staff in this way.

All in all, a pleasant stay -- nothing terrible, nothing extraordinarily good. Would I stay here again? Sure. It's a safe, pleasant hotel. That's what most travelers need, and this suits the bill.

“Nice rooms, awful service.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 July 2010

Rooms were recently remodeled and nice. Staff was rarely at desk and seemed bothered when given request or asked a question. Also housekeeping skipped room cleaning even when asked. Showers cold in afternoon?

“Older, but nice hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 July 2010

We stayed here for 3 nights. The room was recently renovated so everything was clean and the beds were very good (for hotel standards). It did have a funky smell that I could not put my hands on but as soon as we opened the window and turned the a/c on, it seemed to dissapate. Indoor/outdoor pool was warm but closed at 10pm which my kids didn't appreciate. Breakfast was eggs, sausage, waffles and other standard fare. No coffee makers in the room but I brought my own - thankfully, too, b/c the coffee at breakfast was awful. All in all, it was worth the $90 rate when the Holiday Inn down the road was $130.
