“We thought that Arbor Cottage was lovely.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 October 2010

We thouroughly enjoyed our stay at the Arbor Cottage. The staff was very friendly and accommodating, the rooms were clean, the breakfast was delicious every day, and the location was perfect. We were traveling with extended family and the Captains Loft was exactly what we needed! It was difficult to find a room like that at any other bed and breakfast.

“Dream come true”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 October 2010

Nantucket is a place I have planned to visit since I was a chlld. I decided this past summer the time had come -- I now have grandchildren. A friend and I stayed in the Captain's Loft at the Arbor Cottage at Six Step Lane, and it was exactly as I had hoped it would be! The staff at the Veranda is unbelievable! They were so helpful in arranging our every desire, and they made possible several memorable adventures! I loved every minute of our stay, and I am planning to return next year! The breakfasts were beyond anything we had expected. The lobby (including the enormous bowl of Hot Tamales) and grounds are lovely, and the location could not be more perfect! I fell in love!

“"Climate" control”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 July 2010

A wonderful experience. Breakfast a bit fussy, but at these prices we should be pampered a bit. The room was hot at night with only a down comforter and a sheet so it alternated between chilly and roasting. The local natives were quite loud on the weekend - woke us up at 1 am each night we were there with loud parties. Rude neighbors can't be helped but we were quite bleary eyed. Off season a find, a steal, a gem - in season: choose your weekends wisely.

“Wonferful inn!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 September 2008

My husband and I stayed at the Arbor Cottage for three nights as part of our honeymoon in June. It was our first time on Nantucket, and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

The AC is managed by the clean, contemporary Veranda House just across the street. We checked in there (very friendly and helpful staff throughout our entire stay) and also got to meet the owner of the AC who lives in the downstairs portion of the three story house. The manager actually upgraded us to the mid-size room in the AC because a single lady offered to take the smaller room that we originally booked instead--very nice! There are only three rooms in the AC (2 on the second floor, 1 on the third), making it generally pretty quiet, although you do have to allow for the fact that it is an older house, so there will be some noise.

The AC has central, which air is awesome, as you don't have to deal with window-unit noise (I did not notice central air in all the VH rooms). There is a small nicely-decorated sitting room on the first floor with a mini-fridge and a place to put dirty coffee mugs, etc. They were painting the house while we were there, so that was a minor inconvenience at times, but really not a big deal at all. The house itself was in wonderful condition inside and out (I am a clean freak). The bed was comfy enough (nice linens), there was a flat screen TV, and the bathroom was updated, clean, light, and airy.

It was nice to be "attached" to a larger inn like the VH but to have the privacy of the AC. We relaxed on the verandas of the VH each afternoon with cookies and tea and enjoyed the breakfasts there each morning. The breakfasts were not large, but they were good quality, interesting, and tasty--we enjoyed each morning's offering. We also popped in to the VH a couple of the cooler evenings for another cup of tea--the manager was happy to show us where the hot water kettle was.

The location of the VH and AC was great--on a quiet lane but very convenient to walk to town (1-2 blocks). We absolutely loved our stay on Nantucket and are really looking forward to staying in the AC or VH for our next visit!

“Great B&B... great location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 September 2008

When I wanted to book our fall package at the Veranda House(GREAT value included R/T tickets on high speed ferry), there was only one room available across the street in their Arbor Cottage 'annex'. Our stay there did not disappoint. Nice and roomy accommodations were always very clean and the staff friendly and helpful. The location is very convenient for a short stroll to the center of town or the dock area. The breakfast buffet was varied and fresh. The only thing remotely negative would be that the hot item all 3 mornings was oatmeal.
Would definitely stay there again!
