“Elegance and Charm in Nantucket”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2011

Late review, but my wife and I stayed at the Century House for an extended weekend last September. I searched Trip Advisor, and given that I made plans last minute, I was pleasantly surprised to find the Century House available. I spoke with JeanE, one of the innkeepers at length, and she was extremely outgoing and helpful in selecting a room for the weekend.

We stayed in the Daffodil room, a corner room on the second floor facing Cliff Road with a king-sized canopy bed. The room was decorated in period furnishings, and very clean. The bed was comfortable, and the common areas of the inn were very quaint and inviting, with tasteful furnishings. JeanE and Gerry were very friendly, accomodating and informative.

The location was perfect, on a quiet side street removed from the traffic. We were just a few blocks from the center of town, and a short walk to restaurants and shopping. There was ample parking on the street, although a permit is needed.

The only negative I would offer is that the room was relatively small, as one would expect in a historic B and B built in the 19th century. I did not feel crowded, however, and with the availability of numerous distractions in Nantucket in close proximity, it was not an issue. The cobblestone streets can be wearing on your back and feet, so plan on bringing broken-in and comfy walking shoes to explore the downtown area.

“Worst B&B we have ever stayed at!”

The owners were rude. Never introduced themselves. The breakfast was bland and the worst example of a continental breakfast I have ever seen. The room small and dusty. We were going to stay another night but left and found a better B&B in town. Don't waste your time or money on this place. The owners are odd.

“Great B&B!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 January 2011

I spent a week at The Century House. It was recommended to me by a friend. It was such a beautiful quaint BB, more like a home, with everything I needed for a relaxing vacation. I had been looking forward to it all year and couldn't wait to get there. I took the ferry from Hyannis, then walked to the inn. Upon arrival, I felt welcomed from the moment I walked in. Fresh baked cookies had just been baked. The staff was friendly; took me to my room, White Narcissus, on the second floor. The stairs were definitely a little steep, but I expected that from an old home. They gave me great information on good restaurants, activities, directions which made my stay special.
The inn was very clean, spacious and so beautiful. My room was nice and airy, with a very comfortable bed. I left the windows open the entire time. They went above and beyond to make my stay comfortable. I needed help with the DVD player, and they came right away. The location was good because it was within walking distance to downtown. The beaches were also close by. I enjoyed walking into town to the the little shops and bookstores. On the nights I wanted to sit in my room and relax, I read a book or watched movies from their library . The breakfast was delicious...as a health nut, it was perfect for me. Loved the oatmeal and fresh berries. Highly recommend this place if you just need to get away. Hope to go back soon.

“Century house was an elegant home away from home”

Century House is the perfect fit for a stay in Nantucket. There is warm and comfortable living room open to guests and refreshments are always set up at all times. The bottomless breakfasts are both delicious and healthy. It's a short walk to Nantucket town and the perfect start for a jog or bike ride. Special attention to quality matresses and air conditioned rooms are a plus. The innkeepers, Jerry and Jean are the perfect hosts. There is no other place I would ever choose over Century House.

The innkeepers have transformed an elegant Nantucket home into a never to forget bed and breafast. The location is perfect and with walkable distance to downtown. Breakfasts are both sumptuous and healthy. Nantucket Harbor is visible and Cliff road is filled with classic Nantucket homes and the perfect road for walking or a run. I have been threre for three straight seasons and always look forward to returning.
