“The Martin House - two thumbs up!!”

The day after Thanksgiving a friend of mine and I went to Nantucket, the first time for both of us. We had decided to make this trip the previous year and made a reservation at The Martin House. We chose this b & b mearly from reading about it since neither of us had any prior knowledge of it or any other b & b on the island. We had a room on the third floor with twin beds. The room was spacious for the two of us and beautifully decorated. And, luckily for us there was no other reservation on the 3rd floor with whom we had to share the extremely large bathroom. The house is wonderfully decorated (we looked at all of the empty bedrooms). And Skye was a great hostess - very entertaining, very informative as to what was going on during our stay (Christmas tree lighting and carol sing, the play "Oliver", the beach and lighthouse, artisans' craft fair, and shopping) and as to places to eat, cooked great breakfasts, and is just a really nice person. It was great getting to know the other guests at breakfast. The weather was absolutely BEAUTIFUL. We couldn't have asked for a better 3 days. The only drawback was that, since the weather was so warm for late November, our room was extremely warm during the nights. We opened windows, but it was still quite warm. But, I would take that over cold any day. And, at this time of year, there is no
public transportation other than taxis. But, walking or bicycling is good. I would definitely return to this inn for a short or a long stay. Skye is the best!!

Room Tip: The rooms on the 3rd floor, except for one which has its own bathroom, apparently share bathrooms wh...

“The Most Amazing Inn on Nantucket !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 October 2011

Earlier in the year we were planning a wedding on Nantucket and decided on having all of our guests stay at The Martin House. Fortunately for us, this was one of the best choices we made in planning our wedding. Having filled nearly all the rooms in the inn with our guests it was just an amazing place to stay.

Sky and the Martin House Staff were totally accommodating in every way. They all worked hard to insure that the "Nantucket Experience" was at its best for all of our guests. The owner of the Inn also made sure our time spent at the Martin House was a pleasurable memory for us and all our guests by coming to the Inn several times throughout the 4 days we were there and to make sure that all of us were more than 100% satisfied with the accommodations.

The Inn was immaculate, clean, well maintained and each of our rooms were comfortable, nicely decorated. The grounds of the inn were very pretty with lots of flowers, a great porch where we enjoyed lots of good wine and food. I couldn't say enough about how well the Inn staff were about giving recommendations about certain restaurants, places to go, things to do so we all were able to have a great vacation as well as a wedding. They even coordinated massage services (that were fantastic) and helped coordinate our transportation needs.

The location of the Inn was key. A short 2 minute walk (depending on how fast you walk) to the main part of town, a 10 min walk to Brant Point Beach (where we got married) we all were able to enjoy our time there without the hassle of paying for cabs.

If you are considering a trip to Nantucket, The Martin House should be at the top of your list to consider to stay. I recommend without reservation - 100% you will have as great an experience as we did. Read the reviews, they are all very positive. Any reviews written about this Inn that are less favorable feel comfortable and confident ignoring them - they can not be accurate by any means.

“Fabulous Visit... Top-Shelf Innkeeper”

If you are seeking a reasonably priced, comfortable "inn" experience, convenient to shops and restaurants, this is a nice choice. The large porch is a wonderful place to chill in the late afternoon or enjoy breakfast in the morning. I had a small room with a single bed on the 3rd floor, which was perfectly adequate for my needs. Friends were in larger rooms which had plenty of space for relaxing and the beds were very comfortable. The towels and robes are of a very high quality. Sharing a bathroom is not for everyone, but it is part of the value-oriented inn experience, and was done very nicely at Martin House Inn. The widows walk was great fun to visit via a small stair on the 3rf floor. The innkeeper / hostess, Skye, is an amazing pastry chef and very accomodating. She was a pleasure to work with on the telephone and extremely helpful during my visit. The owners could pay more attention to maintenance, but the place is quite comfortable. I would highly recommend visiting this inn, given its convenient location and wonderful hostess. Three stars for the inn and 5 for Skye. Love the cookies!

“Awesome Place...wonderful hostess!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 September 2011

Our room was beautiful and clean and our bed very comfortable. Skye was a wonderful hostess...full of energy, a great cook, always accessable and with a great knowledge of the Island and suggestions on food and fun! After a nice ferry ride to the island and a short walk to the Martin House, we were greeted with an outstanding wine and cheese welcome that set the stage for an excellent stay! The Bike tour with Nantucket Bike Tours is a must! The sunset out at Madaket Beach is awesome! Cisco Brewery is a must visit, and their are too many good places to eat to even start to name. Also, Sconset Beach is worth the journey...20 mins by bus, 2 hours walking, anyway you get there you will enjoy it! Skye recommended all of these and she was right every time! She was also able to recommend different restaurants depending on your tastes and preferences. Probably only two things that would have made this a perfect 5 of 5 in every way...first was truly a preference, the room was very light as soon as the sun came up...I liked this, my wife would have rather had some longer darkness. Secondly, our bathroom was too small. We made due, and it didn't distract from the overall fun, just something we would change. We got to see other rooms and some had shared bathrooms, while others had larger bathrooms. Different people have different preferences, just something to ask about. We WILL return to Nantucket and we will most likely stay at the Martin House!

“Poor Customer Service”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 September 2011

i called three days prior to my stay due to the pending of Hurricane Irene. The island was evacuated and the ferry was cancelled, yet these yahoos will not refund my money. instead they want to give me a two year credit on a future stay. With the school year starting, this was the last weekend we could have made the eleven hour drive to Nantuckete.

I am thankful that put the charge on American Express so I have some assurance that the charge can be disputed.
