“Amazing location and excellent breakfast, but...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

The hotel's strongest point is its location and views: even from the first floor bedrooms, you have an amazing view: you can see everything from Alexander's state to the old fortress, including of course the beautiful stone bridge.

Another great point is breakfast: varied and delicious, including grilled vegetables, yoghourt, cheese, cured meat, sausages, eggs, fruits, etc. More a brunch than just a breakfast.

On the negative side, the hotel needs a renovation: most of the decoration feels outdated, and many of the towels are clearly worn out. One of the sheets provided had a blood stain.

Also, the spa is not of a 5 star quality... enjoyable, but not really top-quality. The jacuzzi is plastic and the sauna is very small, with a tile floor instead of being all made in wood. The swimming pool is nice, but rather cold for the winter.

The person who received us, without being rude, was not attentive and did not care too much about us feeling welcome.

All in all, it is a nice hotel, but for its price and category (5 stars) the quality should be better ensured.

Room Tip: Better on higher floors, with a nicer view.

“reasonable hotel which did not live up to its star rating”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 January 2012

very good location but the hotel let itself down as there were issues with the room
ie faulty heating and leaking shower which really did not work too well . Also the hotel closed its restaurant facilities for both days of our stay which for a 5 star hotel was unacceptable.
The staff did try to resolve things but for the price we did not really get value ; the location
however was perfect

“A decent hotel and a great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 December 2011

I'm writing the review from the business point of view. The Internet is free and its all over the hotel. The rooms are spacious and the breakfast is reasonable considering the Balkan area with a lot of local food and cheese. nearby is the old market. and on the next river bank you can find new stores restaurants and coffee, you have to ask for the 5th flour to avoid the noises and distraction. The Spa , gym and more sports activities are for free. There is a nice mezzanine floor for meetings.

“Fine...but”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 November 2011

Agree with MerylinUk that location is great. It claims 5 star status but by Western European standards, it is 2 or 3 star. However I didn't pay a 5 star price (Euros 96 per night) so I have no real complaints.

Room size was fine and adequately equipped (room 406) but still no English TV channels.

Room maintenance was poor. The toilet had not been cleaned properly and the state-of-the- art shower instructions bore no resemblance to the actual controls. The shower leaked badly leaving substantial puddles on the floor - a mop would have been useful. The electronic key system had (according to the keys) been transferred from another hotel and was not reliable.

Finally, on my my last morning, the staff couldn't agree on the time! Daylight saving had ended the night before and the man in charge of breakfast insisted that the clocks had gone back two hours and I would have to wait another 30 mins before I could eat. Reception thought (correctly) that the adjustment was 1 hour.

Be interesting to know how it compares with Best Western hotel in Skopje?

“Hotel is just fine... in a great location!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 September 2011

The Stone Bridge Hotel's location is by far the best in Skopje. It is located in the center of town between the old town and the newer more modern part of Skopje. Our room overlooked the Stone Bridge and the fortress.

By western standards, the rooms are indeed tired, the bed was not super comfortable and the covers and pillows were a little thin. The shower was hiliarious - it looked like a state-of-the-art spa shower of the 1980s... but it did the trick. Hotel was clean.

The public spaces were beautiful, the lobby was old-school and quite elegant if you are able to appreciate that you are in Macedonia, where the economy is not anywhere neat that of the Western world.

Overall, it is what it is: clean, a little tired, GREAT location! We stayed for one night on our way back to the airport, and we don't regret our decision!

Room Tip: Ask for a room off hte main strip - it is a little quieter!
