First, I have to say it's very hard to find a good hotel in Skopje because of there is not so much option. Skopje may be a daily part of a whole balkan trip, not an individual touristic destination even I'm a Turkish citizen which is an extension of Ottoman Empire.
Hotel Ambasador is in a quiet location and very easy accessible, so close to downtown, just 5 min by walking. Hotel staff was extremely helpful, extremely friendly.
The room was adequate, not stylish furnitured but really comfortable. The bathroom was clean. The breakfast was average, a few cheese types, coffee, tea, premixed orqnge juice, jam, honey, butter, nut-cocoa cream, fried bread with blended egg (french toast) and etc.
I recommend this hotel in price/quality approach. I prefer this hotel for closeness to the center because we had this trip with our six months baby :) We took a taxi to the Kale fortress and old bazaar and other centers. Taximeter opened at just 50 dinar (less than 1 euro) and finished at just 70-80 dinar. Skopje extremely cheap city for a european. If you want to go to a modern shopping center you can go to Vero Center where is just 10 minutes away...
Please note that airport taxi prices; these taxis pricelist is 20-25 euros to city center. However if you arrange a taxi company before you arrive you pay just 700-800 dinar (less than 13 EUR). Check taxi companies from internet and reserve by phone...
