“Laid back friendly”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 June 2010

Between the Amherst Country Club and Amherst College, a good stretch of the legs to downtown Amherst. Old house on Rt. 116. Very nice place. The owners are really nice people. If you are in to classic cars, you are in for a treat! Rooms are spacious. Has shared bath, but only two rooms, so it may not really matter. The rooms face Rt. 116, which has a moderate amount of traffic. If you choose to have the windows open, you will hear some traffic. If you choose to keep them shut, you won't hear much -- especially if you use the air conditioner. Breakfasts may not be the best we've had at a B&B but certainly a couple of notches about what we would make at home. This is a really nice place to stay in the Amherst area.

“Lovely!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 October 2009

We chose this location to break up our journey from Mystic to Vermont, as it's about half way.

This was a good choice for a place to stay. Amherst was a nice surprise. It's a college town with a friendly feel. It's a little bit of a walk to the centre of Amherst from this B&B, you'll need a car ideally. Our hosts were great and the room was beautiflly decorated.

We had a great sleep in a very comfy bed. A 'Pack & Play' was provided for our baby daughter with no bother. We had a lovely home cooked breakfast the next day, with extra attention given to our baby. It's a refreshing change to stay at a B&B where babies are more than welcome!

The location is next to a main road. Thankfully the road is quieter at night, so it's not too bad.. The complimentary Wireless Internet was appreciated. Highly recommended.

“Horace Kellogg, a first-rate New England country B &B”

Horace Kellogg Homestead is a historic house (1828) restored to have a historic flavor with modern conveniences. The two bedrooms are beautiful and spacious. Although they don't have private bathrooms, this was not a problem for us because there are two modern bathrooms, one upstairs and one downstairs, just a few steps from the bedrooms, and robes are provided. A/C is available. Our bed was very comfortable. Breakfast was sumptuous and tasty, and Susan, the proprietor, checks out your food preferences carefully when you arrive. She and her husband are friendly and welcoming, always ready to tell you about the house and the Amherst area and to answer your special needs. The location is a mile from Amherst center on the main street south out of town--easy to find--in a beautiful wooded area.. And the price makes Horacce Kellogg Homestead a real bargain.

This place is a gem! It's attractive, comfortable and conveniently located just outside downtown Amherst. Susan is a wonderful hostess - warm, friendly and full of advice about things to see and do in the area. She provides a great breakfast and makes you feel right at home.

If you’re coming to Amherst or Northampton, listen to us, we spent three nights at Horace Kellogg Homestead, and wished we booked more. Why spent time at a hotel, when you have such a great option, in big nice quit comfortable house like Horace Kellogg, within walking distance to the center of Amherst, and very close to all the attractions including the amazing bike trail to Northampton.
Above all the hosts, both Susan & Stephen, are so nice and friendly, so helpful and accommodating, we enjoyed their company and of course Susan’s cooking, what a breakfast!!! The rooms are big comfortable and very clean, prices are very reasonable.
So probably we’ll be there next summer too.
