This place is a gem! It's attractive, comfortable and conveniently located just outside downtown Amherst. Susan is a wonderful hostess - warm, friendly and full of advice about things to see and do in the area. She provides a great breakfast and makes you feel right at home.

If you’re coming to Amherst or Northampton, listen to us, we spent three nights at Horace Kellogg Homestead, and wished we booked more. Why spent time at a hotel, when you have such a great option, in big nice quit comfortable house like Horace Kellogg, within walking distance to the center of Amherst, and very close to all the attractions including the amazing bike trail to Northampton.
Above all the hosts, both Susan & Stephen, are so nice and friendly, so helpful and accommodating, we enjoyed their company and of course Susan’s cooking, what a breakfast!!! The rooms are big comfortable and very clean, prices are very reasonable.
So probably we’ll be there next summer too.

I stayed overnight at the Horace Kellogg recently, and thought it was a great find. The innkeepers were friendly and welcoming without being oppressive, and the accommodations were spotless. The "Judge's Room" was tastefully furnished in what I'd call a plain Victorian style (that is, tame prints and rich colors, but thankfully no fussy / cutesy paraphernalia like teddy bears or unnecessary doilies). The bath down the hall was, again, tastefully decorated and clean.

Two small caveats: After dark, the inn is a bit hard to find--a lighted sign from the road would be very helpful. And I'd like to see better locks on the doors. Having lived in Amherst a few years ago, I know it is indeed a remarkably safe place. But as a woman traveling alone, I would have appreciated a deadbolt/key style lock on the door. (The rooms currently have a small sliding lock mounted with screws on the inside of each door, of the same type one sees in public restroom stalls). I didn't go out into town from the B & B, but if I had I might have worried about my luggage, given that one doesn't know who the other guests are. With that said, though, I highly recommend this comfortable and well-managed bed and breakfast.
