“Maryland Inn”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2012

I got a good price on Priceline for Historic Inns of Annapolis and we were given a room in the Maryland Inn. It was not nice at all. The room decor and furnishing were faded and worn, the room smelled musty, and it was very tiny. There was just enough room to walk around the one double bed in the room. It had been listed as a 3 1/2 star hotel, the same as the Lowe's and the Westin, but there was no comparison. There was no way I wanted to stay there so I managed to get my money back and went straight to the Westin.

“Fantastic Location and Wonderful Staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

My boyfriend and I stayed in the Maryland Inn after much deliberation over which property to reserve a room at. The location was amazing! I loved being among the shops and restaurants as well as just a stroll down to the water. I have to admit that I liked the interior (at least the lobby and public areas) of the Calvert House better since it seemed better maintained. Our room/suite was very roomy (thank you!) with smaller bedroom area and a very large living room area with a view of the state capitol. There was also a small closet in the bedroom and a walk in closet in the living area. You can tell it is a historic property. A few minor cosmetic touch ups would make the room fabulous. We will definitely return but probably reserve a room in the Calvert House to see what it was like. Save yourself a headache and just go with the valet parking. We were really impressed by their service.

Naomi at the front desk and William, a valet, were really helpful.

Room Tip: Use the valet.

“Cozy, quiet, comfortable.”

We stayed in the Robert Johnson House. The room was small but not at all cramped, and tastefully decorated. Very quiet at night and even during the day, and the location is unbeatable. At this price, this is a terrific alternative to a modern chain hotel. Guests at the Johnson House will have to register at another property, a short walk down a picturesque street. Once you get there, however, there's an elevator, so no worries about schlepping luggage up the stairs!

“What a neat place to visit!”

Located across the street from the historical State Capitol Building (which was also used as the U.S. Capitol Building before DC), this charming historical hotel is a walk away from the bustling historic shops. We had never been to Annapolis before, and we were pleasantly surprised with the activity and the quaintness of the area. The hotel was very nice, and the price was excellent. We would definitely return to see more of the are.

Room Tip: Be sure to ask for a queen bed if you are travelling with your spouse.

“Friendly staff; pleasant stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

My company held their Holiday Dinner at a restaurant in Annapolis. My spouse and I did not want to drive home after enjoying the holiday cheer at the dinner, so we planned to stay in town overnight. A co-worker shared a good deal at the Historic Inns for the weekend; $79/night. The front desk is in the building right off of State Circle. That street is very narrow, especially when cars are parked on both sides. Fortunately, our car is small.
We met the friendly and helpful valet staff first. He told us where our car would be parked and how to call for it. Then in to the desk staff, where the friendliness and competence continued. We were quickly checked in. The room at the Calvert House was clean and comfortable. It was smallish, which I expected. There was free Wi-Fi and a large flat screen TV. I enjoyed the glimpse of the State House from one window. The bed was comfortable, and the room stayed a comfortable temperature.
There is no restaurant in the building where we stayed, but we were within a block of several nice restaurants. (They do have a breakfast delivery service.)
We enjoyed the history of the place. Some of the architectural features are visible, such as the heating system for a greenhouse. Artifacts uncovered during restoration were on display.
Several co-workers were staying in the hotel, and the staff graciously drove us to the restaurant in their shuttle. I can say enough about how the hotel staff made our visit enjoyable. The next time we plan a weekend in Annapolis, we will stay at the Historic Inns of Annapolis.
