“Enchanted evening in the heart of a city that defines aquatic charm...”

From the welcome that was truly genuine to the Sangria on the loveky Portico this is a step off Main but miles from the more commercial spots we had stayed in in our previous stays in this lovely village by the Bay...if u want the escape steps away from everything out the back door this is the spot...ask for the step up Jacuzzi tub suite!...

“Dump”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 September 2011

This place looks lovely on the outside but what a dump on the inside. Our room was run down, paint peeling, furniture in disrepair and there was such a sickeningly sweet smell in the place we had to leave. I think they must have put stuff in the carpets to mask odors. We checked other rooms and they were just as bad. Disheveled bedspreads like someone had been on each one. We were appalled. At least they were very gracious about letting us cancel.

“Great find”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 September 2011

I had originally wanted to stay at the Marriott Waterfront but at $289 a night I went shopping and found this place. Had no idea what to expect...but was great. Great location, friendly staff. Clean room. Def. bigger than your average hotel. Got a great rate...at the time only $89 so a huge difference from Marriott. Which I stopped by only adding to my joy that I had not spent the money. It was average and Pussers was over priced water downed drinks in plastic cups. Most def would stay at the State House again!! Also restaurant downstairs looked very nice and the food smelled delicious...although didn't eat there.

Don't expect this as a B&B there isn't any breakfast and you get a key to let yourself in and out. But for an affordable place to stay while you explore Annapolis it can't be beat!

Room Tip: All the rooms seem equal.

“Marvelous, an oasis”

Lovely B & B downtown Annapolis. Great owner/operators who treat their guests as though family. Very casual and relaxing. Across street from Maryland State House which served as nation's capitol in late 1700's. Nice period furniture; warm and comfy. If you want the glitz and ritz, not here. If you want a very nice place to stay, close in, comfortable, relaxed, one can't beat it.

“A wonderful weekend away.”

My husband and I were looking for a reasonably close (but still fun!) place to spend our 10 year anniversary. We chose Annapolis... on the water, we could walk everywhere - everything we wanted. We chose to stay at the State House Inn. The location is great - very convient - walking distance - to all of Annapolis' many attractions. The State Circle is at the front (galleries, a few restaurants, some boutiques), and the cobblestone "main" street is at the back (restaurants, bars, shops, the harbor) and its own Zagat rated restaurant downstairs, this looked like a good choice.

Some of the reviews looked iffy, but we definitely prefer b&bs and locally owned businesses and we thought it would be a good chance to take. We were so pleased! We stayed in the Chesapeake room. It was roomy and - although a bit dated - very comfortable. The mattress wasn't luxurious or anything but the room and bathroom were very clean, and we had a great view. The front window looks out onto the beautifully landscaped lawn of the State House, and the side window looks out onto the street, with the Harbor in the distance.

The "office hours" are quite limited, but I feel that we were offered sufficient ways to get in touch with staff if we needed anything. I thought the owner, the manager, and the housekeeper were all very nice and very proud of their inn.

Don't expect a luxurious b&b... but it's far more personal than a hotel. We had a great visit! Oh - and the restaurant downstairs was wonderful. A bit of a splurge! But it was our anniversary and the food was great. :)
