“Great place to stay, if you get the right room”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 December 2011

The entire Ft. Polk/Alexandria area has little to offer in the hotel/motel department. La Quinta Inn is about 1 mile from the Alexandria airport, but be sure to GET DIRECTIONS! It isn't well marked, but is just off the interstate next to a Cracker Barrell. Try to get an outside room close to the back parking lot. I have used the same room over 7 times now, and it is always perfect. Separate bedroom with french doors dividing it and the living area, wi-fi in the living area, two large flat-screen TVs, clean bath, and the bed was extremely comfortable. The couch in the living area is quite uncomfortable, but I spend a majority of the short time I am there at the desk using my laptop. The Cracker Barrell is next door, and there are a number of fast-food places as well as gas stations within just a few blocks. It takes about six minutes to get to the airport (they offer a shuttle but I usually have a rental car) - only the Parc England hotel is closer. Perhaps it is because I am a repeat customer, but I have always had a great experience here. If you have kids, good luck - there is very little to do in this area, and I would guess most visitors are seeing Army family members at Ft. Polk - a 50-minute drive.

Room Tip: Ask for one close to the back parking lot, not near the front of the hotel. They are used less ofte...

“Mixed experience”

We stopped last night at this hotel. We were on our way home from New Orleans and it was late. We had stayed at La Quintas from time to time with pretty good luck so we decided to try this one. We arrived with no reservation and were checked in with no problems. The hotel seemed to be quite new and from the decor (very modern) you could tell it was aimed at the younger travelers (which we are not). The room was fine ... no complaints. However, they had the air conditioner running full blast showing 65 degrees. That is a little cool for these old bones. The bed was comfortable and the room had a very large working area for our PC and it had a new TV.

The disappointment came this morning at breakfast. We got down to the lobby about 9:15 (Sunday morning). The food had been picked over pretty much and it did not appear that the staff had replenished anything at all. The floor was dirty and sticky in front of the wafle stand. The fruit looked very unappetizing. The apples looked bruised and the bananas looked like they had been there for a few days. The yogurt was room temperature (should have been chilled). The decaf coffee urn was empty. The waffle tasted fine but the syrup dispenser was plugged up so that the syrup came out in a drip. One of the staff did finally mop the floor.

I can't condemn the chain due a single experience. If we had arrived for breakfast at the last minute I probably would expect things to be picked over. However, 9:15 on Sunday morning should have been prime time for serving their traveling families ... and there were lots of them. The kinds of things I am complaining about were pretty simple and basic. If they are going to brag about having a full breakfast, they should spend a little more time managing it.

“2nd Stay and probably the last!”

This was our second time staying at this motel this year.

This time we needed a Suite with an extra Bed for our Mother. The suites come with a pull out couch. On this visit the couch had a badly stained Cushion/Mattress. Crums and Food stains when you opened it up. YUCK!

We went to the front desk and got a Kiing Size Room with a Roll Away! Took them forever to get the bed to us, then didn't provide any bedding or pillows. Took 3 times to get all the stuff.

Apparently at the time of our check in, they were short staffed and were running around like crazy trying to get things organized.

And once again their Bright Side Breakfast is lacking!

I reported on the breakfast before and I'm not sure if it is because there is a Cracker Barrel right next door or not. Being that this is an older La Quinta, perhaps they don't have the facilities to provide a better breakfast, not sure on this one. I just know other La Quintas we have stayed at have always had a good selection for breakfast.

The prices for this motel vs the quality of rooms is poor. Prices too high!!

Room Tip: At this motel, you should check out any room, before moving in. Check for cleanliness and make sure...

“Modern furniture, but not comfortable”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 August 2011

We stay at La Quintas often, and this one is in the newer bright side look. It had a lot of bright colors.. It has modern looking furniture and lighting. The couch is extremely hard, and the room we got had a broken valance hanging when we walked in. We had to ask for another room. The staff was fine, but we just didn't find the room appealing or warm. It is clean. It was mean't to be a nicer La Quinta, but didn't feel comfortable in the room. Everything else was fine.

“Decent but not the best”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 July 2011

First impression was great. The front desk help was pleasant and quick to address issue of people talking in hallway after midnight. There beds to not come with a comforter - only a sheet and thin blanket that usually goes under a comforter and a decorative through which was stiff and covered only half the bed. The washer/dryer made a squeeking noise every 10 seconds (and someone was using that after midnight). Kept me awake.
Room was okay, but felt damp when I walked in. only half roll of toilet paper and no fresh roll in bathroom. Hangers left on shower rod from previous guest and closet also not cleaned after previous guest.
