OK, so it has a nice-looking, albeit small, pool on the inside, as well as a jacuzzi. This does me absolutely no good when it is full of massively overweight people and their kids. The weight issue is not the fault of the hotel's, however, 6 kids in the jacuzzi with blow up flotation toys should not be allowed. It was also quite cold in the "atrium" where the aquatics were. Perhaps it would be better to go in the summer, when the outdoor pool is functioning-can't speak to that. The room was on the ground floor. It was OK/average. The bed was large and not too stiff or soft, there were marks on the wall showing where things used to hang. The plumbing was an issue. The faucet in the sink was utterly distressing. The hot and cold was mixed up, or something, I couldn't find the correct setting to get hot water in the sink and I twisted that handle from one to twelve o clock, as it had not a stop. Same with the shower, hot and cold were indetermined by which direction the handle was turned. It was a room that could use some updating to be sure, but, what do you want out of a Best Western in Alexandria?
The breakfast was pretty OK. There was a woman on duty was quite scary and surly to those entering the area, also served in the atrium, however, upon reassurance that we did, in fact, belong there, became quite pleasant. Breakfast choices included pieces of fresh fruit, fruit salad (probably from a can), dry cereal, bread assortment/bagels, and hot food made to order including breakfast burrito, eggs, grits, biscuit and gravy, pancakes, waffles, ham, sausage, and of course coffee and watered down assorted juices. It is worthwhile to pay breakfast a visit before leaving. Can't say I'd recommend this hotel, though, as it seems to have an infestation of sparrows that flock and nest in the gutters around the hotel, and wake up very early in the morning to sound the day in. For all the good that the black-out curtains and quiet fan can do to ensure peace and quiet overnight, these birds quickly undo to the tune of 6:30am. I'd have rather slept another hour, as it was the weekend.
