I went to Alexandria to take some things to a friend that was planning on staying at Value Place till Thanksgiving, due to a job nearby with a company handling the outage at the nearby power plant. A large majority of the workers on this job had planned on staying there. Although the place looked nice from the outside, once in their rooms there was a total different view of the place. It was nothing like it was advertised and promised to be. It was filthy. The commode in my friend's room had mold all over it. The floors were filthy in the room. There were no lamps, only a very dim ceiling light. There were no curtains, and the mini blinds were old and worn and the outside light came through them at night, making it difficult to sleep. Only 2 towels were allowed per room, and you could not get any more clean ones till the 2 you already had were turned in. That was difficult to do, since the worker left early in the morning, working 12 hour shifts. Since the office is only open 9-5 on weekdays, 9-noon on Sat, and closed all day Sunday, it makes it impossible to get towels. There was not a guest laundromat as advertised, only a broken washing machine and NO dryer at all. The kitchen/kitchenette consisted of a tiny tiny microwave almost too small to hold even a tv dinner. There was a large refrigerator, but no way to cook anything other than a two eye electric burner. There were no utensils or cookware or plates. There was not a dresser as advertised. There was not even a closet, merely a portable plastic shelf in bedroom that would hold a few clothes. There was no nightstand, so the phone was across the room. There was a tiny metal table and two filthy nasty chairs. One of the chairs looked like it had vomit on it. The tv was small, I think a 13 inch, and I don't know if the "SATELLITE TV" was in operation or not. The sheets were dirty and the bedspread had a sort of beaded , knotted up texture of threads on the underside of it. We went to a dollar store and bought some cheap sheets for the bed, and took the spread completely off the bed. When different people complained to those in the office, they refused to agree how dirty the place was. Some were told that they would have a clean room when they returned from work, but that never happened. A lot of the workers checked out immediately, but were not allowed to get any of their money back, even though this place was falsely advertised. They have since moved into some really nice condos that were only $44 more a week than what they were paying for this pigpen. The rest did not have the money to move right then to the condos, but will do so as soon as their week is up at Value Place. Hopefully they will not have to take legal action to get their deposit back. The condos that the workers are moving to are fully furnished. They are clean, have a nice laundromat, full-size swimming pool, a weight room, and are so much nicer. It is a crying shame that VALUE PLACE is getting away with this. They need to be turned in to both the Health Department and the Better Business Bureau.
