“A hidden gem in the heart of the Old City.”

We needed a room at the last minute for one night with our preference being in Casco Vieja.  I had read the great reviews of the Los Cuatro Tulipanes apartments and was hoping to stay there but i there website stated there was a 3 day minimum.  However, the reservation page on their website is very user friendly and accurate which showed a vacancy in their smaller economy rooms for a steal of $140.  I used the contact tab instead of the reservation page and requested a one night stay.  Within an hour, I received a response from one of the young co-owners (Evan) advising we were very welcome to come for just the one night.

We were met the next morning by the other co-owner (Matt) who showed us to our room.  What a surprise when we entered the building of apartments.  It felt like a building/rooms you would stay at in Spain or Greece.   In through the lovely tiled floors our room was on the second floor or about a 4 story building.  Apparently it was previously an office.  The room was huge with 2 romeo & juliet balconies that looked into the middle of the building.  The room was bright and you immediately noticed you could not hear the street noise.  The website described it as a small room for short stays which is not really accurate.  It is bigger than most hotel rooms with an queen size bed, sitting area, kitchen area with eating bar and stools, full size fridge, stove, pots, pans & dishes.  There were even some welcome bevies in the fridge (chilled water, coke & Balboa Panamanian beer).  Included in the apartment is a washing machine, safe and fast speed wi-fi.  I understand most other rooms have dryers so I am not sure if this will be added later or not.  Either way, clean clothes are a bonus, just hang to dry.

We did snope the next morning to look in the vacant rooms that were being cleaned.  They  were gorgeous with larger rooms and fancy decor.

Matt was also helpful recommending restaurants ans things to see (his favourites) - he didn't lead us astray.  Check out Minolas, ask about Mama Chefa (in the home of a woman who serves lunch to locals including government workers),  great ice- cream/sorbet store next to apartments, Super Gourmet deli (sells some good wines for a cheap price), Ciao Prescor (fabulous ceviche and mojitos), Egos, the list goes on.  We also hired a cab to take us to top of hill (Cerro Ancon) for views of the canal, Panama City and Casco Viejo.  Casco Viejo (Casco Aniguo) is very safe day or night and easy to get around.  Stay south of 9th avenue!

Well we only stayed one night this time, but would highly recommend and would not hesitate to stay here again.  One night, but a world of info.

These guests were such a blast! They had just come from a bizarre experience at the beach so coming "home" to Tulipanes was a both a relief and a surprise. They made quick use of our in-house recommendations and got the absolute most out of their short stay in town. This particular unit, Monjas 2a, is one of our smaller and newest units. Guests like it because it's bigger than a typical hotel room and has that wonderful exposed stone wall. We look forward to hosting you again some day in the future when we can have you for more than just one night :)

“Dream Come True Wedding Accomodations”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

I have stayed several times at Los Cuatro Tulipanes, and each time just love the ambiance, feeling, decor and personal touches at their apartments. When my husband and I decided to have our wedding ceremony in Casco Viejo, one of the first things we did was to book out all of the Monjas Building for our bridal party, which was amazing. We were all able to stay together in this beautiful and historic building, and everyone was *thrilled* with their rooms, each so unique, comfortable and all right in the heart of the old town. Evan was able to communicate with everyone before arrival, there at check in to show everyone the ropes, and was always available when needed, helping to arrange transportation, but also gave us plenty of space just to enjoy together several days of fun leading up to the wedding day. I have to say that the whole experience there was magical, and Los Cuatro Tulipanes played a big part in that. Not to mention some of the beautiful photos we took before the wedding inside the building. Thanks again guys for the wonderful hospitality and for treating us and all of our friends so well during our stay. We'll be back!!!

“This is our spot from now on!”

We are frequent travelers to Panama and have stayed at several different popular establishments. We recentely discovered Los Cuatro Tulipanes and, without question, it was most enjoyable, very well managed and right in the heart of Casco! We had everything we needed, washer and dryer, full kitchen beautiful courtyard and all very clean and spotless.
Evan and Sandra were like family and arranged Blas to take us to/from the airport or anywhere we wanted to go, We will be staying there on our next trip and recommend this to anyone who wants to be in proximity of Panama City's culture, nice restaurants and clubs in a luxurious setting.

“Friendliest hotel in town!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 January 2012

I stayed at the Casa Mendez in January 2012. I was only there for one night, and had a red-eye flight the next night. Even so, the managers allowed me to stay at the hotel for much of the day after check-out so I wouldn't be out on the street with all my things. Very friendly and welcoming people. I absolutely intend to stay there next time I'm in Panama City!

“Comfortable rooms in the Heart of the Historic District”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 January 2012

Just returned from a 2 night stay in Casco Viejo in the Monjas 2C apartment run by Los Cuatro Tulipanes, and I have nothing to complain about! The apartment was incredibly clean and well maintained. As promised, we had a coffee maker and kettle in the room, as well as access to coffee grinds and tea bags to make ourselves feel right at home. Evan was even kind enough to leave us some water and cold beer in the fridge upon our arrival - a welcomed refreshment after spending the morning commuting in the Panama City heat.

While I had my own cell phone with me, the apartment came with a working cell phone as well so I could make reservations with restaurants and call venues without having to lose minutes on my own phone.

The bathroom was also very clean (a major relief because a moldy shower floor is a real turn off...luckily, this was NOT the case at all). The shower in both bathrooms had great water pressure and hot water at all times of the day. We were given enough towels and extras too - there was no need to search for more, which we were thankful for.

I enjoyed spending the early evenings on the large balcony overlooking one of Casco Viejo's main streets that leads to the Cathedral, watching the world go by was wonderful. Monjas 2C is a great location to spend some time in Casco Viejo, and because of the spacious living area and 2 bedrooms that are available with 1 king bed and either 1 queen or 2 twin beds, I will be sure to return with friends soon. The rooms had A/C that worked well, we only ran it for an hour before bed and the room stayed cool throughout the night thanks to the ceiling fan. The bed was very comfortable, the sheets smelled clean and fresh, and the large TV mounted on the wall at the foot of the bed made for some comfortable down time after a long day of walking around.

I did have a small problem with my internet connection, but I believe it was just my own computer acting funny since my husband's computer worked just fine. I thought that re-setting the router might help me establish a connection to a new network and when I asked Sandra for assistance, she was happy to help out and restart the router. Sure enough, my internet was up and working without problems for the duration of my stay.

I had a pleasant stay in Casco Viejo and the comfortable and beautifully historic apartment made my colonial experience even more special. I look forward to coming back soon!
