“Pleasant & basic”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

The place is just as pictured. It is basic and clean. The provided breakfast was nice. The hosts are super helpful.
This is a great place to hang your hat, shower and sleep. However, when travelling, my spouse & I like to do our sightseeing during the day and hang out with a bottle of wine in the evening. The common area, there, is okay, but the hosts smoke non-stop. So, we didn't sit out on the patio at night. Also, even though the B&B is in a walkable neighborhood, there are few places to go to dine or explore. One must take a taxi.
I would only recommend this place for people who are very much on the go. If you are traveling with small kids or simply want to enjoy alot of downtime, it might be better to rent a condo or stay in a centrally located hotel.

“Conveniently Located”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

We spent the night of our arrival in Panama here. We used their airport pickup service from Tocumen airport and found it very convenient especially after a long flight; the driver met us upon arrival. The Inn is conveniently located in a quiet neighbourhood a few minutes from Albrook airport.
We enjoyed our breakfast on the covered patio and all the colourful birds attracted by numerous feeders.
The Inn is located on Ancon Hill and also close to the Canal area, Casco Viejo and the Amador causeway.

“Wonderful! Absolutely wonderful!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 January 2012

We stayed there for 3 nights in January, 2012, and it was by far the very best place we have ever stayed-anywhere! Bill and Mieke were the best hosts! The rooms are great, the breakfast is too. And the yard and birds are fantastic. The location is also wonderful as it is so safe to walk around the area. Wish we could have stayed longer. We will be back next time we are in panama,

“Great help, nice location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 January 2012

We only stayed one night at the Balboa Inn, as we went on to the San Blas islands the following day. But Mieke and Bill went out of their way to help us with everything we needed and offered that we could store our luggage a week later when we had one day to spend in Panama City. The Inn is located in a quiet, green residential area (not a given in Panama City), quite central to many places to visit.

“Great find in an excellent location in Panama City”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 January 2012

We recently spent five nights at the Balboa Inn, and we can’t imagine having chosen a better place to stay in Panama City. First of all, the canal zone is a tranquil, laid-back, relaxing part of the city—in our view, so much more desirable than other downtown areas, such as El Cangrejo or Bella Vista, for example. It really felt like a tropical oasis in the city, but getting to other parts of the city was still easy, fast and affordable. Most of what we did was actually closer to the Balboa Inn than other parts of the city, so it worked very well for us. It was well situated for reaching Cerro Ancon, Miraflores Locks, The Amador Causeway, The Canal Administration Building, Casco Viejo, and the Contemporary Art Museum.

The value was very good. Rooms were spotlessly clean, pleasant and comfortable, equipped with safes, air conditioning, and televisions. We slept very well, waking to the sound of birds chirping each morning. Hearty breakfasts are served outside on the patio, which is a relaxing space that's ideal for bird-watching since it’s surrounded by trees and wildlife.

We thoroughly enjoyed getting to know Bill and Mike, the innkeepers, who are extremely attentive, accommodating, helpful, and fun. They are excellent hosts who really go above and beyond for their guests, and we hope to cross paths again with them some day!

A note about another review: It was never a problem to return to the Inn and ring the doorbell at any hour. Bill and Mieke made it clear that we could return at any time, and that this was not something to worry about. We actually liked not having to worry about carrying a key with us in the city, so we did not see this as a problem in any way.

The Balboa Inn is a relaxing, laid-back place in an ideal location. We highly recommend it.
