“Your average 3star basic”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2012

We stayed 3 nights at this basic 3star hotel. The room was small but adequate, though not well lit; the bed was clean and comfortable, the phone and TV worked, as did the air conditioning (in many of the rooms the air conditioning unit is not right in line with the bed but off in the jog created by the bathroom so the breeze does not blow straight over you but still cools nicely). Breakfast was plentiful, a basic buffet, with hot and cold offerings. The view from the roof top was great, but the pool did not look clean. This building must have been quite nice once upon a time, but is now a bit shabby. The staff at the front desk are not a happy bunch; we got the feeling on more than one occasion that we were interrupting with their work.
However, the location was convenient, and we generally felt it was good value for the money put out, which is not a lot for Panama City.

“Basic place - beware of the free airport ride”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2012

The hotel was in a bit of an off location, the room itself was basic but nice enough. AC kinda worked, WIFI kinda worked, shower worked just fine. The pool on the rooftop is a nice perk!

I did feel screwed by their 'free airport transfer': on my way from the airport I had to wait over half an hour until I really lost my patience, on the way back I found out that the 'free airport transfer' back only rides at certain times of the day, for my flight I had to pay a glorious $30 for the exact same ride. Shady.

Funniest part of my stay: the suggestion that was shoved under the clear plastic table cover to tip your breakfast waiter 25 cents.

Room Tip: My room on the 4th floor was just fine. All rooms face outward onto relatively quiet residential str...

“Basic Hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 January 2012

This is your basic budget hotel. It seems like the facility was built in the fifties or sixties and despite some attempts at renovation it is definitely dated. The bed is comfortable and the plumbing works. There is LCD or Plasma TV in the room but the Internet (WiFi) is very erratic. Two noisy wall A/C units cool the room.

Breakfast is included in the daily rate ($60-70 range) and the choice (pancake, toast, arepas, eggs, bacon, cheese, sausage, fruit, juice, tea, coffee, hot chocolate) is varied and reasonably tasty. The menu for the other meals is adequate and the taste is not bad.

Transfers to Tocumen airport and the three major malls in Panama City are gratis. A tour company is based on the first floor so purchasing trips to various tourist destinations is very easy.

The staff is friendly and helpful. The location is central and one could easily walk to the Balboa Avenue/Costa Cintera area. You will definitely need a taxi to the El Cangrejo (casinos, restaurants, etc) area.

Would recommend if you are on a tight budget!

Room Tip: Choose one of the higher floors for a better view.

“Economy Hotel with Benefits”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 December 2011

people found this review helpful

We stayed at the Costa Inn twice, once for four days and then once more before returning to the U.S. The room we had was on the third floor overlooking Panama City; the room itself was basic but quite comfortable. Additionally, the complimentary breakfast was excellent! And the hotel staff members were very friendly, allowing us to have an early breakfast whenever we scheduled a tour earlier than the 7:00-9:00 AM breakfast schedule. I recommend this hotel highly for those interested in comfort along with economy.

Room Tip: Ask for the rooms on the third and fourth floors overlooking Panama City. Great city views!

“Do Not STAY HERE”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 December 2011

My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights in Dec. It was clean, but that is where the positives stop. Our blinds on both windows did not go down, no door on the shower, only one hand towel for 2 people, hair dryer did not work, no light plate on the bathroom light switch, only 2 pieces of soap so tiny and thin you could not take a full shower with it. The resturant was awful. No service at all. It took 2 hrs for us to order, get our meal, eat and get our check and that is only because we kept calling the waitress back. I had 4 pieces of fried chicken. Two pieces had blood running out of it. When I finally got the waitress and showed her she made an eelk face, picked up the dish and that was it. Not do you want something else, let me take some money off the bill, nothing. I paid for 4 pieces and got 2. At breakfast they had pan cakes but the butter was all gone. I asked a waitress for butter, in Spanish, and she said butter then went and refilled the cheese, ham and pancake pans, went to clean off some tables and I never did see the butter. Service is a foreign word to them even in Spanish.

Room Tip: stay some where else they don't have any
