“Good, but not great hotel, in a great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2012

I find it difficult to give an overall rating to this hotel because certain things are very good and certain things could be a lot better. So here is the good and not so good:
The good:
The location is excellent. It is right next to calle Uraguay which has numerous restaurants and bars, so we could walk to dinner, drinks etc. each night.
The hotel is very chic and the rooms and bathrooms are very large and comfortable.
Room service was good and fairly prompt.
The doormen were very helpful and very accommodating.
The not so good:
The pool is TINY and is located in a spot that gets no afternoon sun but plenty of sea breeze. If you are looking for a hotel with intention to use the pool, I would not recommend this hotel.
The service was generally very mediocre (though that seems to be the case throughout Panama). There was ever a person at the concierge desk while we were at the hotel (and I mean that literally). If the doorman were not around, there was no one helpful as the front desk was not particularly helpful. When we arranged with the front desk for a taxi to take us to albrook airport (and requested a van with an English speaking driver) they got us a small vehicle that our family of 5 had to squeeze into, the driver spoke no English and took us to the wrong airport. I knew we were heading the wrong direction, but it took me 10 mInutes to convince him to turn around and go to albrook. (When we asked the doorman 2 days earlier for a cab and an english speaking driver to take us to casca Visio and panama Visio, in 10 minutes he got us a van with a very helpfully English speaking driver who ultimately gave us a you of both locations). Also, no one in the restaurant spoke English so our one breakfast there was an adventure.
I know others have mentioned the bathrooms, but it's worth repeating. They give you zero privacy. I understand that the see through showers can be sexy, but seeing through straight to the toilet with no way to close it off is a bit much.
Overall, if travelling back to Panama city, I would look at other hotels.

“Typically great Starwood Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 December 2011

Stayed at Le Meridian Panama Dec 17th. The hotel is located in a great part of the city. Modern and surprisingly spacious room, overlooking thePacific Ocean. The bathroom was amazing! We at at the hotel restraunt for breakfast and the traditional Panamanian breakfast for four was delious and very affordable.

“Sincerely disappointed”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 December 2011

Le Meridien Panama is swank and wants you to know it. The terrace with a pool is a lovely spot from which to view the city. The beds were very comfortable, but our room (with two queen beds) had too-large gaps in the frosting of the shower wall that were a little odd considering the fact that it was set up for non-couples. The air conditioning was comfortable but made the room quite dry and felt very closed off from the city.

I booked a room with SPG points for three people and was informed upon arrival that the rate I had booked was only for two people and that it was $20 for an additional guest, leading me to assume that the room rate included breakfast. The reply was a stony no, that no rewards reservations include breakfast. The room we received was not made up to include a third person (extra set of towels, bathrobe), depite the additional cost. Worst of all was an incorrect charge on my credit card for the minibar. When I called to ask about the additional charge, I was told that no one could explain the charge me at that time (during normal business hours on a weekday) and I would have to call back at another time.

Bottom line: prices are far too high and hidden charges (no internet, breakfast or tax included in room price, errant minibar charges) and poor service make this hotel less than desireable. There are much better choices in Panama City.
