“A very nice 4 night stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

We really enjoyed our stay at HI City of Knowledge. The hotel was immaculate, the service great, the pool area small but adequate for enjoying the gorgeous weather. We also enjoyed the views from our Canal side windows, I spent hours watching ships like the Queen Elizabeth go through the locks.
Make sure you ask for a room on the 5th or 6th floor, canal side. We had them change our room and are happy we did. There may be a little more noise, but the views are amazing (and let's face it, you are going to have the AC going anyway).
Some noise from the hall way as there is a training room on the 6th floor.
Lovely staff, especially Yarileth at the front desk. She cheerfully changed our room and acted as concierge for us the entire stay. She arranged taxis and negotiated fares for us as well as setting up trips to the Parque Municipal for bird watching (although early morning birding from beside the pool brought us parrots, tanagers, etc with our morning coffee).
It is a ways out of Panama City, but closer to many other attractions that Panama has to offer. Cabs are cheap if you are sharing with another person, we were a group of 4 and never paid more than a few bucks each.
We never ate in the hotel, just used the coffee shop and bar. Great pub with Irish food and hamburgers less than a block away (Mick's), and a wonderful Italian place next door.
kudos to the manager of the hotel, also, who greeted us when we checked in and gave us free wifi when she saw we were Priority Club members with HI. It was appreciated as we had our IPads and not a laptop (there is free connection in the rooms to cable).

Room Tip: Canal side 5 or 6th floor, a little noisier but the view is amazing of the locks and ships. All the...

“Holiday Inn City of Knowledge”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2012

Rooms nice, large, with safe & refrigerator. Lobby area was attractive. We were part of a large tour so some of our experiences wouldn't relate to individuals. The breakfast, which I assume was for everyone, was adequate. Dinner on our own was very good...pasta dishes. The group buffet was disorganized with our 2 tour guides doing a lot of help setting up & serving. Most of us had a limited view of the canal which was pretty cool. This place is very close to the Miraflores Locks, and some of our people walked (longish) over to the locks restaurant for dinner our free night. They said it was very good. Helpful front desk staff.

“Scratch Old Images of the Holiday Inn”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

Remember when "the best surprise is no surprise"? The slogan had been put to rest with good reason. On two different occasions, we stayed at the Holiday Inn - City of Knowledge near the Panama Canal and were quite surprised for a number of reasons. The biggest was the front desk staff. Both times, we had special requests and both times they were met with satisfaction and a smile. The receptionists went the extra mile and truly understood the meaning of "customer service," often missing from folks who work long hours. Another surprise: the rooms. They faced the Panama Canal so we could watch the giant container and bulk carrier ships glide to or from the locks. But more, the rooms were large, immaculate, and well furnished with really comfortable beds and up-scale linens. The bathrooms were also large and fitted with soft, fluffy towels. Another plus feature is that the hotel is close to a huge park with an excellent running path. All in all, this Holiday Inn proved that it does provide the kinds of surprises you want and deserve. Hope others do so, too.

“Love the linens”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 January 2012

The staff is extremely helpful and nice. Rooms are very clean and large. Our room did not have a bath tub but nice bathroom. The location is great if you want to be on this side of town but otherwise in the middle of no where. The biggest complaint is internet service. Staff very helpful to get a new router going, but think that hotel is trying to scrimp on wi-fi service. They need to step it up greatly. Unaceptable compared to rest of country we travelled in.
