My wife and I stayed here about four years age and loved the Nicaraguan character and cleanliness of the establishment. We scheduled a return with friends on Jan.14,2012. A couple days before our arrival our friends received an email informing that they could not be accommodated do to construction. Believing we might be affected by the construction we began to call and email. It was not until the following day that we were able to speak with someone and verify that our room was available and that our friends could stay at a hotel about a block away. On our arrival we had difficulty accessing the hotel due to a mound of sand which covered the sidewalk. A very cordial young lady met us at the door and walked us to the check-in desk. When that was accomplished we began walking to our room and realized she was walking in another direction. We were then informed we would be in room #6 instead of #1, the room we had previously stayed in and which was confirmed on our reservation. She also informed that #6 was the same price even though it was a smaller room. After some conversation she said she would call the manager and see if an accomodation could be made. Eventually she informed the price would be reduced 15%. That evening when we attempted to print our boarding passes the printer was out of ink and no replacment was available. While we were attempting to sleep that night, we heard a scratching sound in the cieling. It was not on the tile roof but very definitely in the wood cieling. I dressed and brought the desk clerk in so she could hear it. She agreed that it sounded like rats. Next mourning I asked if she had notified the manager. She stated that she had but that he had informed her that there were no rates in the building. Nevertheless, he told her she could reduce the rate another 5%. The construction which is occuring is the placement of a swimming pool in the beautiful foliage area behind the hotel. To make matters worse we went to the hotel where our friends had been placed and found it to be larger, well lighted, very clean, and a better rate, even after our discount. We will find another hotel next time in Managua.
