“Not what it use to be”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 January 2012

My wife and I stayed here about four years age and loved the Nicaraguan character and cleanliness of the establishment. We scheduled a return with friends on Jan.14,2012. A couple days before our arrival our friends received an email informing that they could not be accommodated do to construction. Believing we might be affected by the construction we began to call and email. It was not until the following day that we were able to speak with someone and verify that our room was available and that our friends could stay at a hotel about a block away. On our arrival we had difficulty accessing the hotel due to a mound of sand which covered the sidewalk. A very cordial young lady met us at the door and walked us to the check-in desk. When that was accomplished we began walking to our room and realized she was walking in another direction. We were then informed we would be in room #6 instead of #1, the room we had previously stayed in and which was confirmed on our reservation. She also informed that #6 was the same price even though it was a smaller room. After some conversation she said she would call the manager and see if an accomodation could be made. Eventually she informed the price would be reduced 15%. That evening when we attempted to print our boarding passes the printer was out of ink and no replacment was available. While we were attempting to sleep that night, we heard a scratching sound in the cieling. It was not on the tile roof but very definitely in the wood cieling. I dressed and brought the desk clerk in so she could hear it. She agreed that it sounded like rats. Next mourning I asked if she had notified the manager. She stated that she had but that he had informed her that there were no rates in the building. Nevertheless, he told her she could reduce the rate another 5%. The construction which is occuring is the placement of a swimming pool in the beautiful foliage area behind the hotel. To make matters worse we went to the hotel where our friends had been placed and found it to be larger, well lighted, very clean, and a better rate, even after our discount. We will find another hotel next time in Managua.

Dear Guest,

We truly apologize for this inconvenience. You have all the right to be disappointed after having trouble getting into our hotel, being switched to another room and not being able to enjoy the usual green foliage in our back garden.

We were in the process of remodeling and closed our hotel a month to not disturb our guests. Unfortunately the construction company got delayed. Worried about this we started cancelling and organizing with other hotels so our guests wouldn’t have a bad experience.

We also apologize if you heard weird noises on your roof, our natural environment and country is host to a large diversity of wild life, on some occasions we have seen kittens, green iguanas and even possums passing through our trees and rooftop.

We understand that you wanted to make this trip perfect for your family and friends… and that we let you down... Please let us make up for this bad experience. If you have another trip to Nicaragua any time soon, we would like you give you and your family or friends free accommodation. Hoping that this time you can enjoy the hotel like you did on your first stay with us. The new pool has high pressured massaging water jets and is still surrounded by a beautiful garden.

We Hope you can understand us….

Thank you,

All of us at Casa Naranja

“Can't stop thinking about this hotel!!”

My husband and I stayed at Hotel Casa Naranja on the recommendation of a friend and arrived with an open mind as we were only staying one night. Good or bad, it would be a short stay. Walking thru the front gates, we wished right away that we were staying longer. The decor is so interesting with artifacts tucked in nooks and crannies. Fresh flowers floating in bowls and huge arrangements in the garden added to the charm. The breakfast was the best out of the 3 hotels we stayed at and service was exceptional. I'd recommend this hotel without a doubt and will certainly stay again when passing back thru Managua.

“Unexpected beauty in the city of Managua”

We certainly weren't prepared, after reading various travel guides about Managua, to find an oasis of beauty in the heart of Managua. But we certainly did with Hotel Case Naranja. The hotel is lovely, gardens galore! The common rooms and patios are very lovely, with nice seating overlooking the surrounding garden. We were greated by a glass of cold juice and a great member of the staff. Very tranquil. We were given restaurant recommendations, with the staff member even walking us out the front door and part way down the block to point out some nice places to eat (within easy walking distance). We recommend the Peruvian restaurant two doors down. The beds were clean and comfortable, the bathroom nice. All in all a great experience. We had made the mistake of making reservations at the Best Western at the airport but after reading multiple reviews against that idea, made the last minute decision to go here, and I'm so glad we did!

Room Tip: The rooms all looked nice.

“Elegance in Rugged Managua”

I stayed in Hotel Casa Naranja in Managua as part of my vacation to Nicaragua. No problems whatsoever making a reservation through the hotel's website. Great communication with the hotel staff through e-mail prior to arrival, too! The hotel arranged a taxi pickup ($17 USD) and the driver was waiting outside just past customs at the airport. The hotel was clean and comfortable, and was quite beautiful considering it was nestled in the heart of gritty and rugged Managua! Reception staff spoke both English and Spanish and was always friendly and smiling. Breakfast consisted of a menu with 10 choices, and was enough to get you started each morning. Beds were comfortable with clean linens in great condition. The bathroom had great towels, with hot water in the shower. Rooms were very clean and fresh smelling. Air conditioning was COLD in the hot and humid city. This hotel is a GREAT alternative to the pricier Hotel Intercontinental, and is located near great restaurants (Cocina de Dona Haydee, Tercer Ojo) in the neighborhood. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone considering staying in Managua for any length of time in the future.

Room Tip: Rooms #2 and #8 may suffer from street noise. Try to get a room on the interior of the hotel such as...

Absolute Tranquility in the heart of the Huge city of Managua. What a treasure we found at the last minute, as a back up plan to stay in Managua the night before our flight back to the states. We were mesmerized with the Service from the front door and until we left. Ivan took unequealed care to provide us with, what we consider a 5 star room, meals, and information. We had internet "whew, it had been 5 days", cable, Ice cold water, AC, a view of lush tropical rain forest! This establishment is truely a Gem.

Room Tip: ALL the rooms are GREAT Rooms, You'll see.
