“I'd love to stay there again next time I'm in Managua”

I made the reservations on-line. We arrived at the airport at 8PM, hailed a cab, and thought he was taking us to a bad-looking neighborhood. I already knew the place was about 10-15 minutes from the airport, but still I was apprehensive. I booked this for the cost, and because I wanted to get out where the local people lived. Once inside the doors, we were amazed. It is lovely. The old wood panel, the tiled bathroom and floor, and the simple but neat patio were all wonderful. And the proprietor got us whatever we requested, and he helped set up our arrangements for the next day's trip to Granada. Breakfast was provided, and it was very good. $39.10 is what his place cost that night! I would go back to D'lido without any hesitation whatsoever.

“Good value but hard to find!”

We stayed one night on arrival in Managua. We were happy with the value received, but a warning if you have a rental car and do your own driving - this place is difficult to find. With no street names in Managua, you have to have a good map and count intersections. Then we just wandered the neighborhood we thought it was in, as it is not on a main street. Found it mostly by chance. Once there, we drank some inexpensive beer and were able to settle for the night. It is better if you use a taxi or their airport service.

“Good budget hotel with lots of freebies and bonuses!”

Okay, this is Managua, and I paid $40 a night for two double beds. huge room, a/c, tv, free breakfast, private bath, and a nice pool-how can I complain? And free wireless! This hotel is on the recommended list for the US Embassy. Granted, the standards aren't squeaky clean Holiday Inn Express, but hey...it's a good deal. There are bugs but this is the tropics.

Service is really exceptional--young lady with glasses at the front desk is a great help--and though no neighborhood in MGA is perfect (htis is strictly midloe class)--you are pretty close to the InterMall for only a $2.50 taxi ride. Also there is a nearby pulperia (about 50 feet from the hotel) where you can buy soft drinks.

We did arrive on a Sunday night (the first time we stayed there) and the hotel was full of men who played loud music out by the pool and I swear it was a tea dance (I hail from Key West) but by 9 pm it was quiet. The 2nd time I stayed there ours was the only group in the hotel.

If you are looking for plush pay $100- extra a night and stay elsewhere. If, however, you are coming in from the jungle (as we were), this will be a BIG step up.

“Cheap with AC, Internet, Airport Pickup, and a Pool, but VERY LOUD!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 April 2009

It is a nice cheap place to stay with a pool. Rooms are very big not particularly clean, but good enough for the price. Food was so-so. However, the place was cheap with AC, Internet, airport pick up and a pool. So if you are not picky and need to spend a couple of nights in Managua, this place will probably be perfect for you.
I had one big problem with the place. It was very very LOUD in the morning, Around 6 am I woke up because there was a group of several people (it turned out they were workers on extended stay) outside my door talking to each other so loudly that I could hear each and every word. The door to their room was open and, of course, music was blasting. Next morning the same story... So if you don't like being woken up at 6 am, this place is probably is not for you.

“Please Do Stay There--A great hotel at a reasonable price.”

The lady from Phoenix must have stayed in a different Hotel D'Lido than I did. Like them, our plane arrived late and we were happy to be able to get a ride to the hotel. Sure, the guy had a pickup truck, but so what? We put our luggage in the back and rode along in the cab. He took us right to the door and unloaded our luggage.
We stayed in two different rooms on different days. Neither was Ritz-Carlton impressive, but both were adequate, functional, and clean. For the $30 or $40 we paid, they were great rooms. The bathroom, like the rest of the room, was not impressive, but it was clean and did what it needed to do.
Although the rooms were plain, they were clean and there were NO BUGS. I'm sorry if the prior reviewer was unhappy about staying in a hotel with locals, but that was one of the reasons we came to Nicaragua.
As to the staff, they worked with us on anything we asked about. For us to go to Granada, they drove us, at no additional charge, to the University from which the buses leave. We had booked for three nights but then decided to stay in Granada another night, and that was no problem for the D'Lido. We had to get up at 4:00 a.m. to catch our return flight, and the man with the pickup was there to take us to the airport.
There are lots of nicer hotels and lots of more expensive hotels. Those places might go through the motions of giving good service, but at the D'Lido, it's more like staying with your family who are actually concerned that things go well for you.
Enjoy your stay at the Hotel D'Lido!

  • Liked — The reasonable price and management's willingness to accept changes in schedule.
  • Disliked — Location--not really close to downtown, which could be good or bad, depending.
