“Much Better than Previous Review”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

This Crowne Plaza has been participating in Points Breaks so I have stayed here half a dozen times this past 6 months mostly just to get use of the pool/spa and the great free breakfast. The hotel seems to have been working really hard on improving some of the issues it had from the first time I stayed here. The last visit I was greeted by name by the bellhop who remembered me from previous visits. The manager on duty showed up at my door with a wonderful fruit plate and I was given a great suite with a large balcony overlooking both the lake and pool. I am a platinum ambassador and this was recognized and all benefits honored which is nice when some hotels seem to be very stingy with rewards nights.

I needed a couple of extra towels which were promptly delivered, room service was great, prompt and the food was delicious and overall the staff were just excellent. The pool is nice and clean and they have a really good exercise room and a sauna for your use in the spa.

While not up to the standards of the IC in Managua, I would say that this hotel is now much improved and I would not hesitate to recommend it to someone coming to Managua.

“Best Hotel in the City”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 January 2012

I've spent close to 100 nights in the Crowne Plaza Managua and every single one was great. The service is without fault. Yes, there are a couple of newer hotels in Managua, but none offer the personalized service as the Crowne. The rooms, especially the suites, are very big. And while the bathrooms are a bit on the small side, they are functional. The pool is wonderful and is usually empty. If you are lucky enough to get Morgan as your waiter, you're in for some great service.

Room Tip: If you care about a view, choose lake view rooms. However, "mountain" view rooms are the s...

“Disapointing, Dirty and Unhelpful”

This hotel is in serious need of a make-over from unfriendly staff, cockroaches in the food and really dirty rooms. We were super disappointed. It is not worth the money at all. We could not wait to leave except the free airport shuttle was not running! Yikes! Serious work needed here!

“Nice Hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 September 2011

We stayed here for a function at the hotel. They did a great job with the special function. The room was nice, though a little small and needs updating. It was clean and the staff was friendly. There is also a mall right across the street that is quite convenient. Probably a good hotel for business. We did not eat in the restaurant, but the hotel did the food for the event we attended and it was quite good.

“Not so great this time around”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 September 2011

After a wonderful stay last year, I happily booked a night stay again. Bad decision. The problems started when we arrived at the airport and met the shuttle. We weren't on the list for the shuttle, despite the fact that I booked directly with the hotel and reconfirmed our stay and flight number for the shuttle a few days before. We weren't allowed on the shuttle, and had to wait in an airport waiting room while the guy who met us talked with the hotel. By the time that was done, the shuttle had already left for the hotel, so we had to wait for it to come back. When we got to the hotel, they insisted that my reservation was for the previous night, despite all my documentation to the contrary. They couldn't confirm that my credit card hadn't been charged for the previous night (because they had to confirm with the reservation manager, who would not be in until the next day, despite my printed emails with her where she clearly confirmed the correct day). At one point the manager yelled at me that this was what I deserved for booking through Expedia. When I showed him (again) that I booked directly through the hotel, he stared blankly at me. When we finally got a room it was a tiny shabby little smoking room, and they refused to move us because the non-smoking rooms were apparently only for people with reservations. My perception of the room could have been influenced by the service I received, but it seemed smaller, dirtier, and more dated than I remembered from the previous year. Maybe the smoking floor didn't get the same upgrades as the rest of the hotel? By this time it was 10:30pm, a full two hours after we first tried to board the shuttle, so I gave up and crashed.

The next morning they were only marginally more helpful, and it still took another full 1/2 hour of slightly more pleasant but equally unapologetic conversation with the manager to be sure that I would be charged the proper rate and for only one night, and he acted like he was doing me a big favor at that. No apology, no offer of discount on this or even a future stay, nothing. On top of that, instead of crediting the points for my stay to my current Priority Club account, they went ahead and signed me up for a new one (I'm assuming they get something for doing this, as they automatically signed me up for an account the previous time I stayed there, too). I was happy that I only planned to stay one night at this hotel anyway. What a horrible way to start a vacation.

The only pluses were the breakfast (and even that they didn't tell us about, we stumbled upon it on our own) and the fact that Gerald, one of my favorite taxi drivers anywhere in the world, can still be found there.
