“Best value, nicest place in Managua!”

My wife and I stayed a total of 4 nights over a two week period at Managua Hills B&B and it was a delightful experience. The owner, named Young, is a wonderful, friendly, helpful guy, and is fluent in English and Spanish. The B&B (really more like a small motel, with maybe 14 rooms) is quiet, spotless and a pleasure to stay at. The rooms are very reasonably priced, and there is a very nice swimming pool in the the large garden, along with banana and aguacate trees. Meals are available on site, but don't expect a restaurant. It is a small, fully equiped kitchen, and the cook is excellent. There is a very limited menu, but the food was excellent. Breakfast is included, adding to the bargain. The ONLY drawback is that Managua Hills is located a considerable distance from the center of town and from the airport. It is in an upscale residential neighborhood of Managua, off the road south that leads to Masaya. But, if you are looking for great service, comfortable air conditioned rooms, very reasonable rates, great meals, and a terrifc owner, look no fruther than this Nicaraguan-owned and operated spot. You can't do better, in our opinion!

“Garden delight in a third world city”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 January 2011

This was a complete surprise as it's in a quiet garden wonderland within minutes of the city center.. A small hotel that was very clean and well maintained. The food is cooked to order and was simple and fresh. The first place in Nicaragua that had more than a sheet for a cover on the bed. I felt completely safe in the hotel and walking in the residential neighborhood.

“Great food, relaxed and welcome atmosphere, just delightful.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 October 2010

While working on a difficult photo essay on poverty in Nicaragua, I needed a hotel that offered me some comfort, but would maintain a sense of connection to Nicaragua. In other words, I didn't want to be in such a nice hotel that I never wanted to leave. Managua Hills B&B proved the perfect place and without doubt, I will stay there again.

When I first walked in, I saw several guests sitting comfortably, talking and enjoying a shady spot overlooking a small pool. There was a young guest using the hotel's computer to check email and all around me there were the sounds of birds, not traffic.

Breakfast is as you like it, from pancakes or eggs, to my favorite fruit dishes. Dinner is available and while I was staying, the Corvina filet was among the best fish dishes I've tasted in years.

After dinner and breakfast, it is not uncommon to engage in great conversations with what I consider "local" guests. That is, people who have moved to Nicaragua from all over the world. I'm not saying that Nicaragua is the new capital for world travelers, but there do seem to be quite a few faces from far off places that have made the coastal regions their new home. And while they travel between Little Corn Island and Stockholm, many of them stay at Managua Hills B&B.

The pricing is reasonable and Young, the owner, is a fine gentleman that knows how to run a hotel. The rooms are a little small for a couple, but they do have larger rooms available. Occasionally, I had a difficult time getting hot water, but the wait was never too long and with all of the pluses at this site, I found nothing was complainable for me. It's kind of like your family -- you love them despite a few minor flaws.

If you are coming through Managua on your way to one of the many lovely destinations in Nicaragua, I urge you to write this one down. I think you will be happy you did.

I found my perfect escape while still maintaining a connection to

“Great hotel, great service, and great price!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 September 2010

I was in Nicaragua for 9 days with my sister and mom. We had an awesome time. Having a beautiful, cozy place to come back to after a day of nonstop site seeing (and fun!) was great. This bed and breakfast had great service, was very clean and comfortable, and was very affordable. They have air conditioning, hot water, and breakfast every morning (which is delicious!). I loved having breakfast outside in the picnic table under the covered patio. In the evening it was so relaxing to lay in one of the hammocks and enjoy the breeze. The staff is wonderful and helpful and the owner is a very nice man who also speaks english if you don't speak spanish. The location, for me, was ideal. It's close to restaurants, malls, and a main highway but just secluded enough to not have to hear the traffic noises in the morning. I didn't spend too much of my time in the city, since I wanted to explore the different "departamentos." Since Nicaragua is not such a huge country you can visit the "departamentos" that are closer and alway come back to the hotel. The farthest I traveled was two hour away. I would definitely come back here again.
