“Be very careful- I got robbed around the corner of the hostel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2011 via mobile

We stayed here for one night at the second property. The room itself was ok, but although the rough guide said that it was a safe neighbourhood- I disagree. I felt very unsafe. The street is quiet and deserted and a group of 5 teenagers approached myself and my boyfriend and ripped my necklace off me. Luckily we were not hurt, but it was a very scary situation at 8 am on a Sunday morning.
This happened 2 minute walk outside pollo campero- whatever you do, do not turn left when you leave the hostel gate.
The staff should also be aware and warn you. We asked them to call us a taxi and she said to walk and get one right where I was robbed!
I would go elsewhere and regret going there for one night

“Inconvenient and proud of it!!!”

If you didn't make a reservation, or did and they didn't hold it for you, they will put you in the overflow room across the street, but to get to it you must walk around the block. The overflow house sleeps 8 and has no shared kitchen, or secure storage for your bags. A night costs a ridiculous 10 USD per person. Bring your bug spray because the mosquitoes and red ants are in full force here. The night receptionist seemed elated each time I questioned the layout. "So I have to walk all the way around instead of going through that gate right there?" I asked. She looked at me and was almost able to keep a straight face when saying, "That's right." They have a concrete swamp, which someone told me was a swimming pool.

“okish hostel, annoying policies”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 January 2011

it's alright, but they have silly policies, to save a little money here and they are happy to annoy the hell out of you (if you pay for AC it can only be turned on after 9pm, will turn off in the morning, and is only allowed to be set to 26 degrees, not even 25 degrees if you ask for it...)

The guy who has the day shift is extremely cool and one of the best things about the hostel, but the attitude displayed by the other staff is terribly annoying...

atmosphere is social-ish, but Managua tends to be a transport hub for people so not a place where people hang around a lot anyway to be social (like hostels in Leon or Granada, say).

Having said that there are few alternatives in Managua for hostels. they all suck pretty much.

“Awful beds, bad experience”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 December 2010

We stayed here the night before we saw my husband's 17-year-old brother off to the airport at the end of his trip to Nicaragua to visit us. We had heard good things so we decided to try it out. The hostel is close to MetroCentro, the mall in Managua, so that is a plus. However, we had a pretty bad experience here. We weren't there very long, but the atmosphere was so-so...although we did feel safe. We slept in the dorm bunkbeds, and they were completely, utterly awful. The mattress springs literally dug into our backs and we barely slept (and having traveled through Nicaragua pretty extensively, we don't have high standards). The main thing that left us with a bad taste was the "airport shuttle" service that the hostel offers. The night before his flight, we paid $15 for an early morning shuttle. The next morning, two taxis were waiting outside. Two other people were also going to the airport at that time. The taxi driver told one of those people that he was taking 2 of them, and the other taxi was taking my brother-in-law. Later we find out that the taxi driver refused to open the trunk for my brother-in-law at the airport until he paid him for the ride. He speaks no Spanish and did not know what to do, so he paid him. We went back to the hostel to get our money back for the "shuttle" and after a battle, we were reimbursed. The issue was that the hostel claims to have a shuttle service, when really they just call a cab and skim some off the top. It's misleading and put my brother-in-law in an awkward situation. All in all, I wouldn't recommend it.

“A very average backpackers”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 November 2010

We had one night in Managua before heading home the next day and all we needed was somewhere safe, clean and relatively cheap for the night. We didn't expect much so in that respect we weren't too disappointed. But if you're got even a bit more cash and are planning to stay for more than one night, then don't bother with this place.

The lethargy was palpable from the moment we arrived, with little interest shown from the staff in making us feel welcome. The pool was empty, apart from a dirty puddle at the end and the outside area hadn't been maintained at all and was too unpleasant to spend any time in.

This place will barely last as a memory in our otherwise amazing trip to Nicaragua and we never expected it to be a highlight, but if you're considering staying here don't expect much more than the basics.
