I was going to write this review last year after our trip to Kyiv in June, 2006, but did not think to do so because this property might not qualify as a true hotel in the minds of westerners. From the outside one gets the appearance of a "hotel", which changes the instant you walk through the door--it is a somewhat dark hallway that leads into a common stairwell in what was once an old apartment building. The hotel's office is through a non-descript door and reminded me of a rooming house office. In actuality, this is the "beginning" of a hotel--the owner is slowly buying up the various apartments and turning each one into a separate suite. With the ones that have been renovated, they are rather stunning. More significantly, they are value priced considering what you get elsewhere in the city. We were a family of 4 (with two teenage girls) from the states and we decided to stay in one of the suites that was only partially renovated. What it lacked in pizzaz, it more than made up in roominess--2 bedrooms, a living room and a kitchen and bath--very value priced, including breakfast brougth up to the room. THe place is clean and there is a secuity guard. They will get a taxi for you which will not rip you off. The location is across the street from the agrotechnical /food science university and just 2 blocks from the Taras Shevchenko State University and the part across the street with the very good O'Panas restaurant which serves some of the best Ukrainian food in Kyiv--the metro stop is a few blocks away; there is a great pizza place about 3 blocks away and there is a wonderful little art museum opposite the Shevchenko park--for those looking for REAL value--this might be the best place in Kyiv. I would definitely stay there again--the hotel's web site is very accurate and multi-lingual and you can reserve right through their site as we did.
