We arrived at the hotel early in the morning after an overnight train journey from Dnipro. I had read some criticisms of the architecture of the hotel in particular due to its close proximity to St Sofia's. Whilst it is a block of mirrored glass, it is set back and not imposing and I think works quite well, particularly when the sun is shining and reflecting off the building.
We had an upgraded room, one up from the standard. We checked in at 7 am, were dealt with very politely and efficiently and were delighted to be able to check in straight away. Now I have stayed in a number of International Chain hotels all over the world, and I suspect that many prevent you from checking in so early even if they have rooms available, they would rather you spend money in their cafes and restaurants whilst you wait, so full marks to the Hyatt! The hotel is very much international luxury, rather than Ukranian in its feel, but it is lovely and offers a lovely and restful refuge from days of sightseeing. Our hotel room had great views over the square and St Sofias, the bed was extremely comfortable. The room was full of all the mod cons you would expect and was very peaceful. If you want to stay somewhere which feels Ukranian then maybe this isnt the hotel for you, however if you want comfort and pampering during your stay then I would certinly recommend this hotel. We had breakfast which was expensive, but excellent and the service staff were very helpful, friendly (and all very beautiful young ladies).
Surely a must in the summer months (whether you stay in the hotel or not), is to visit the bar in the evening and sit out on the balcony overlooking St Sofias. A really beautiful view to enjoy excellently made cocktails and again top class service. A top class hotel and worth the money in my opinion.
Room Tip: Rooms at the front have a view over the square and St Sofias. Club rooms are higher up and therefore...
