“Rip off”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

The hotel strives to be a 4-5 star hotel but it fails. They constantly try to rip you off. Their transportation service is horrible. They charge 3-4 times more than a normal taxi. And their prices change depending on how you look. Plus even if they call you a cab it somehow is more expensive than if you called one yourself. They don't treat you as a customer but as an ATM machine. The location is ok but the hotel is situated up a hill. If your business is paying fine, but if you are a business person who is money conscious then don't stay here.

Dear Sir,
We appreciate very much to get your comment and we are very sorry that you had a bad experience with the transportation service.
We have a contracted international partner in the hotel which provides transportation services to 4*-5* hotels – AVIS. Since they guarantee the quality of the service, have professional English speaking drivers, offer nice cars and provide the passengers with the insurance – the price is a bit higher than city taxi. However you can be sure that your life and your belongings are safe.
The rates are fixed, one way trip to Boryspil airport costs 400 UAH. All prices you can check with the reception or with transportation coordinator.
Of course, upon request we can call you the city taxi or provide you with the telephone numbers of the taxi service companies.
We hope to welcome you again in President Hotel.

“Little changes”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

It has been over 2 years since I last stayed at this hotel and on my latest visit I saw that little had changed.

The standard rooms are still very Soviet style with weak lighting, sticking curtains, huge tvs, very basic bedding and so much dark wood it only added to the feeling of melancholy from the seriously minus temperatures outside. However it was a reasonable price for Kiev on a hotel and flight deal from Expedia and frnkly the only way that would persuade me to stay here.

The dankness of the standard rooms and corridors upstairs was in complete contrast to the the almost grandeur of the public areas dominated by reception and the coffee bar which doubles as a place of work for certain ladies at night.

The staff were reasonably cheerful in an Eastern European way, seeming to be shy but efficient. Sometimes overly efficient in the constant changing of ashtrays in the coffee bar which is 100% smoking. At times it was like a conveyor belt of waitresses. It was apparent that it was one instruction from the bar manager which was carried out to the letter.

Deals including breakfast are probably worth considering as the buffet costs HRV231, about EURO23. The buffet was standard fare, no toast, but plenty of cake, sweet and fruit selection. The al a carte menu I felt offered better value with bacon, poached eggs, toast, proper orange juice and freshly made coffee which came in at HRV135 or so. It seemed a very strange pricing structure.

3 course dinner was good at around HRV140 and the choices were many from international cuisine, pasta and Ukrainian favourites. The trip to the dining room is however a two lift journey. One down to the lobby and then a change to go down to the restaurant.

Refurbishments are continuing so expect some noise during the day.

Amoung other Kiev Hotel - President Hotel has better pricing and a bit better rooms than others similar. If you can't start day without Gym or pool - that's for you. Close to Ukrainian National stadium - just book south view of hotel

Room Tip: South part windows - just to National stadium side

Dear Mr. Nerijus,
Thank you very much for your nice feedback! I am happy to let you know, that since March 1st we offer our guests to enjoy fitness centre with sauna and pool from 7am till 11pm absolutely for free. Regarding the view, we do our best to satisfy all guests’ preferences. However all hotel rooms have a nice view over the city: one side (western – to the Olympic stadium, eastern – to the city centre). Some rooms have panoramic windows, another have balconies. So if you notice your preferences upon booking – we will be happy to provide you the room you are expecting to get. Waiting forward to welcome you again!

“Not bad but not good either.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 January 2012

I stayed in a standard room so that's what my review covers.
First of all, the hotel makes a great impression from the outside an the lobby is nice, spacious and modern looking.
My room however was old and tired looking. Bathroom fixtures were strange and the toilet seat came from the dollar store. Took me a while to find a power outlet because there was only one.
Don't know why so many others mention curtains... mine were fine.
My room which admittedly was the cheapest, had very outdated electronics, old carpets and furniture.
The location is also a bit weird as one has to climb up and down a hill and walk quite a bit to get anywhere unless one wants to take a taxi each time.
Personally, I think this hotel used to be "Presidential" maybe 20 years ago but also has great potential if they invested in it.
I don't think I'm coming back here but mainly because of the location. In Kiev if you want a nice normal hotel room, you must be prepared to pay $200 plus a night. Otherwise you get slightly updated rooms from the communist era.

“Thankfully i did not have high hopes”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2012

The lobby, gym, restaurants and bar are superb - not 4 star but decent 3 star. The location of the hotel is brilliant, 10 minutes from central kiev and less than 5 minutes to the metro. It's not a particularly hard wark back to the Hotel from central kiev - quite enjoyable. The food in the Slavytch restaurant was very good. I did not sample the breakfast as it was €20 per person - rather expensive.

The rooms, on the other hand, weren't very good. The beds were ok but the duvets were rather short. The toilets did not flush properly, the water would swirl round for 5 minutes then eventually go down.

The main issue was the renovations, they were advertised between 10am and 7pm, that would have been acceptable. In the reality the renovations started at 730am and lasted until evening - however upon complaining we were offered a room upgrade.

our floor was a floor that had not been renovated however there were some floors that had been renovated that looked very nice indeed.
