We stayed here a couple of nights in 2008. We had been promised a private room but it turned out to be a room with no lock in a flat. One of the beds instantly broke when we sat down upon it. When we confronted the very muscular Scandinavian owner with the issue and wanted to discuss a discount he stole and locked away part of our luggage (he returned it after we had paid him). The owner became very rude and physically threatening. Small wonder we checked out prematurily and went to a nearby hotel. Stay clear of this place.

Stay away from this hostell, they cheat you whit everything! Lousy place, rude staff, I mean everything is terrible! Make you self service and avoid this hostell! Stay away this hostell and save yor money and peace of mind!

We booked a "private room with ensuite bathroom" but private isn't really accurate when there's no lock and the owner keeps walking in with knocking, and the ensuite was entirely fictional. The owner was very threatening and made us pay extra on top of a cancellation fee when we had to leave early. Lots of notices and rules and an intrusively nosy owner gave this a very oppressive atmosphere. Also, it advertised internet but in reality no sign of it. Only good thing was it was clean, quiet, and central. If you're going to Kyiv, rent an apartment from a babushka outside the train station! Much better value. Kyiv itself is awesome.

The hostel was in a convenient location, a ten minute walk from the train station, but was pretty convenient in terms of the city as a whole. Kiev is a bit spread out, but the hostel was easy to reach and easy for access to the city.

In terms of a place to stay, the hostel was clean and secure, but had no frills whatsoever. There was no tv, no chairs/sofa, no computer/internet, no food allowed, one bathroom, and the bed were thin mattress rolls. You got the sense the owner did everything right, but did everything in the cheapest possible way. There was a kitchen, but it was the owner/managers office, so was off limits or atleast gave the impression (along with the signs for no food allowed) of its use was not invited.

There were also some odd features of the setup. There were two rooms with beds. Luckily we were a large group and took the full back room, but the front room did not have a door. What made this an issue is that the owner/manager slept in the kitchen and there was no real separation. Also, we came back late one night and the owner/manager answered the door without a shirt on – not terribly appropriate. Another odd thing was that the door required a key to exit, which just gave a weird vibe.

Overall the place was clean, convenient, and secure from the outside world. As a hostel there will be nothing you can complain about as bad, but little you are going to rave about.
